Lolobunnz's

Today I donated 6 of the largest non high fin platy fry to my local shop down the road. Surprisingly the only thing wrong in the tanks was a big crab eating a frog. No ich no velvet or rot or anything I could see. It was still sad to move them and stress them out but they are uniquely colored and supremely healthy. Someone will buy them. Now that leaves some more room for the other fry to grow. Not that I'm short of room.....yet. lol. I have now a new batch ( at least from two different females) of about 23 fry. Will post pics if I remembered to take any.

Here is my new mixed batch of fry. I have had most of my platies for more than 3 months so hopefully they will show mixed signs from the males in my tank. There are light ones, dark ones, spotted one's, maybe a few tuxedo possibilities, and a few with spots and some with spots on the tail. I'm pretty excited to see how these turn out. They were housed in the breeder boxes for 2 days and now have the 29 gallon all to themselves. : D

Pictured below are a few of the larger, more vibrant high fin fry. The last time they were photographed was around the 5th of December. It has now been just about a month since then. I will update with a short video of the new batch of fry soon. They are much larger than the last I posted on them! All healthy and I think they are going to turn out to be just wonderful. A gas to watch them in their own 29 gallon. Love it <3

This is my Male High Fin fry. He's quite unique in my tank. A shimmery translucent red with blue undertones and wag fins. I didn't know how I felt about having more males....but he's gorgeous and a high fin. NEED to keep seeing him grow. On the upper right is a very light female high fin. I have about 3 of those with tiny differences. I'll be keeping the bright beige high fin female with rosy fins. She's the most robust of the three anyhow.

This is my female high fin. She was mostly red. Then developed some spots. Then her spots spread like a wild fire with a tuxedo hint to her for sure. So big and robust! Fast grower like above male. As she continues to grow it seems the under color of the front half of her maybe lightening up? Hmmm. Check out her sweet forehead strap she's rocking. Weird lol.

Here's an up and coming young male high fin. He's a bit smaller, born later, but nice close up. Born on my birthday (or a day before I dunno just found the lil thing on my bday). I really do like him. Uhg I will probably choose this guy over the red high fin wag male. If it comes down to I have too many males... :/

This female high fin is my favorite of that batch. She resembles her redder sister pictured alsoo in this post. This ones spots also spread like wildfire after appearing from no where but didn't cover quite as much and is more broken up. I dint manage to get great photos of her :( but u get the jist. She has shifty blue scales on her sides. Gorgeous and detailed lil thing she is. They all seem to have oranged tinged fins (Sept wag male).

One fry from random 'single fry' batches didn't come out all right :(. She seems to get more severely curved as she grows. But swims great and is one of the larger sized fry. Just hope she doesn't get mated with. But none of the fry survive anymore in the adult tank unless I save them when they are born. So I'll just have to make sure mommas drop in the baby tank and I don't fish out any potentially undesirable fry from the adult tank. None of my generation fry should come out looking like this. Im most certain. Poor thing.

ACTUALLY PHOTOS 4 AND 5 ABOVE are two different fish. The top is the youngest male. The bottom is an older more rosy female. Hehe whoops. Very similar. Quite lucky so cute.

Please forgive all of my spelling errors and not being able to tell right from left lol. I'm doing this all from my phone. Its hard!!

Just a couple photos of the previously mentioned new batch of 24ish fry. They came out of two tanks. They now all happily live in the 29gal by themselves. My 29 gallon I stripped and redid so it was a working tank. It also previously had a squirrel living in it. o_O. A squirrel with lots of scrstchy nails apparently. So pics arent so clesr. Deal with it! :)

Two days ago I donated 11 more fry but this time to the much larger local fish store. Still not a chain fish store mind you. I doubt they would take in home bred fry. I gave away 6 high fin fry and 5 regular fin fry. Included in the 6 high fin fry are the male that was born on my birthday and the red black wag male :(. I did love them but they were relentlessly chasing a crippled male fry of mine from the original batch of 3 fry from Orca. The littelest, most color saturated one. From the first batches of fry that I caught I have 2 deformed fry. A male and a female. I don't know if it was due to them being pregnant at the PSmart pet store or the PCo pet store ;) code names. Or if it were due to my tank cycling when they were growing up. My ammonia did reach .25 a few days but remained at 0 for the rest. And my tanks never registered Nitrites every day that I tested (which was every day). But I'm not going to give away deformed fry so these two are mine forever. I noticed he was being chased and harrassed and his dorsal fin between the spines were missing the fin tissue. And a few tiny bits missing on his tail. It broke my heart he would just hide in the roots of one of my plants and try his best to eat without being attacked. So the next day I donated the larger fry that I wasn't going to keep plus the males that were being mean. I already have 2 adult males anyways so I can't really have any more males. But they leave this little guy alone and there's no more trouble. In fact, just now it is two days later and his fins are almost 100%. Bless his little heart.

Now I hope my other spotted high fin doesn't start changing into a male as well as a nice blonde high fin. I think they are, I believe I am noting the spines thicken on the anal fin and a tiny point being pronounced slowly. Oh well. I love high fins they are gorgeous. But I just want to have unique healthy fish in the long run and a nice happy community tank to boot.

My newest batch of 20 something fry are growing steady. I will probably be transferring the largest fry to the main tank soon where then both sets of the batch will grow more rapidly. I will post pics of the largest fry once I get them into the breeder for transport.

Also, when I was doing a water change last week I filled up the 5 gallon bucket just a little too much. All the way to the top! Oh my. I tried to then dump it into my tank and there was so much water it spilled over the hood and into the slits on top that expose the light bulb. The light barely works now (but it only kind of did anyways, I bought it used for 9 dollars) and I will be going out to get a new unit and keep using my old (give it props) used bulb. So the fry pics in the fry tank should be much more well lit from now on, even tho the tank itself is scratched to all get out.

2 minute long video of my newer batch of fry. 2-3 weeks old. I did just get my new light strip so I can actually see the fish. I made the "beat". Be sure tovwatch it in 1080 resolution! <3

2 minute long video of my 4 month old high fin fry and a short over view of my 50 gallon tank. Maybe I should just start calling these high fins adults :p. NO! They are my babies forever! I do say, my 50 gallon is coming along quite nicely! "Beat" again by me. Lol.

Don't forget the resolution!!

My 4 new syndontis petrocola! I could not find s. Nigriventis for the life of me but somehow found the way more rare s. Petricola! Dwarf upside down cats. With temperments as nice as they come! They are from the same brood as well. And they are gorgeouse! A nice add to the tank. They arent picky eaters either and can tolerate most any tank. Just how I like my fish. LOW MAINTENANCE! Cant wait to let them live it up in ny 50 gallon :3

Pictured below is the male (soon to be blatantly showing it, as well

) of my identical twin 'strawberry blonde' Platies. They look exactly the same, even in size, but one is a male and one is a female. Boy did I get lucky with these gorgeous high fin Platies.

My 4 Synodontis Petricola (<-- this time correct spelling used, lol) are adjusting quite nicely to their community tank, mates, and caves. In and out of those caves all day they are. Can't get over their awesome faces and their markings and color. Such dorsal fins they have! Pardon the algae bits I missed :3

Oh and why the heck not. Here is a pic of one of my kitties, Nala. I tucked her up in my robe and she was just fine with that. Too cute not to share.

Three days ago I found a fry whilst gravel vacuuming. At this point in time my tanks are both half full and I have been letting whatever fry survive among the adults, survive. Which in these past 4 months have been 2, and now with this one, 3. I felt really bad for this tiny fry. I just imagined where my siphon hit hoping not near the fry to hurt it, and also imagined how it must have been for him to be in the siphon tube with the gravel flying around. I know if I were that size and rocks 3 times larger than me were darting furiously through a watery death contraption I wanted nothing to do with in the first place, that I would be completely terrified. I would be praying for a quick death rather than to be wounded and hurt and unable to swim or eat and defend myself.

So I saved the fry. I set it up really nice with java moss and minuscule flakes, all complete with its own little bubble filter. The fry is doing fine, eating and swimming, growing. I'm quite fond of this little fry. Little mystery fry. It had me intrigued.

Well, today is 3 days after I met this fry. I just came home from work and turned on all the lights to feed everyone. I crushed up the flakes so fine in my fingers and went over to feed it. No little spec darted away at my sudden presence. The java moss is thick.... I stuck my fingers in so it would rain food. I watched......nothing. I grasped the moss and moved it a bit. Nothing. :(((. I used the wrong size gate to the outflow of the water in the fry tank. I used the gate that was for larger fry. The slits were too big for it! The fry must have gotten comfortable enough to explore its surroundings completely and just got swept away. I fear the worst for it. You know how Platies are with things dropping into the tank. It was on the side they hang out at, too. I hope it's okay. I really wish I didn't mess up like that. I think that fry deserved a stress free raising. I hope it is okay.

Tank maintenance is tomorrow. I hope I find it. Wish me luck.

I never did find that little fry. Also, this guy...

Is getting in to trouble. Of course shes grown a tiney bit more since this old photi. But not much. Looks painful. But I hope shes enjoying her life. Found her stuck to filter intake when I got home and saved her. Shes acting normal. Must have not been stuck long. I hope shes not sputtering out on me. But then again...it looks painful :(

Here are the non high fin fry from the newest batch. They are being moved to the 50 gallon to grow out.

And these are some of the high fin fry from the original batch going back in to the 29 gallon with another male and two females (high fin) from the newer batch. Im going to find out if high fin to high fin equals all high fin offspring or a mix of regular fin too.
