What's new

controlling the sex of fry???

Makes you wonder how they’ve even been kept going in the hobby . Fortunately a few guys know what’s what and have seen to it .
It's primarily an issue with wild populations and their immediate descendants. Domestic swords are so hybridized with X. maculatus and X. variatus that the gender ratio problem in most cases has been mitigated.

P.S. And I should have stated that wild populations probably account for a fraction of 1% of those kept in the hobby and are bought almost exclusively through specialized vendors and breeders. The millions of swordtails-of-many-colors sold each year in shops and on line are all hybrids.
