Hi i was wondering if anyone could help me on what i can do?

I was in my lfs today and noticed they were selling sterbai corydoras under the name arcautus corys which as you know is not it. so i went home and looked this name up and discovered it was not the arcautus as what they are selling are defo sterbais. The person i was on the phone to told me "dont come here and tell us what and waht we dont have , we have better things to do than listen to u telling us what to do etc"" then hung up the phone!!! i didnt even get a word in before he hung up.

Yeah it's not worth bothering to be honest, practically every lfs has mislabelled fish, and unfortunately they don't want to listen to anyone but the suppliers that get it wrong as well.

Just leave it, it's not really making any difference, most people buy fish for what they look like, and if someone is sensible enough to go a long with an idea of the name of the fish in their head then they'll recognise the label is wrong.

Sometimes it works to our advantage when an expensive fish is labelled as a cheap one anyway :shifty:

for this fish they were selling them at £9!!!!

But im not allowed in anymore can they do that??

yep they can, it up to them who they serve.
but if it really hacks you off, report them to trading standards. miss labelling of even fish is against the sale of goods act, especially if it was a cheap fish advertised as an expensive one. technically that would be fraudulent advertising, though very difficult to prove.
my advice is kick the shop into touch, find one that you like the attitude of better. but i think there may be a moral here!

maybe they had no idea who they were speaking to on the fone,,wear sunglsses and go in as normal, they want the money after all

and u want the fish

lol good luck

sounds like someone wore out their welcome :)
moral is "don't pi-is off the LFS if you wanna go back.

If you see things like that just ignore them. As mentioned above sometimes it works to our advantage. Arcuatus are usually a lot cheaper than sterbais. I would buy them as arcis and get them for the lower price.
If it was the other way, wrongly labelled and horrendously expensive, I would ask them what the fish was. If they said it was the fish on the tag then say it doesn't look like the ones I had before. Can we check it in a book?
If they want the sale they will go have a look in a fish book and prove themselves wrong.

It's not always a deliberate ploy to upset the customers. Quite often it is simply a case of someone putting the wrong tag on the tank. Or the sign is from fish that were in there but have since been sold, then new fish were put in, and the tags hadn't been updated.

Just go find another fish shop.

moral is DONT BUY FROM FISH SHOPS!! :shout:
lol i guess! but, apart from several rescue fish, all mine have come from LFS. i think these things may be easer for me than you. being close to 50 often make it simpler in these situations than if i were a, err somewhat younger, person. but i do tend to do these things face to face, as opposed to by phone, they cant hang up on you if you are in the shop. though you may be correct with the more unusual fish, it is perhaps better to get them from a breeder, as opposed to a shop.

Another thing about doing this over the phone is that they don't really know which tank you're talking about.

Sometimses the tanks in my lfs have different labels on the front to the fish because they've got new stock and haven't got round to changing the labels, if you brought this up in store and pointed to the tank then they may have had a reasonable explanation. Over the phone you probably just sounded like a whinger

ROFL, sorry shouldn't laugh but that's funny

Put it this way.

To generalise wildly, plenty of small shops are owned by grumpy middle aged men (tell me I'm wrong lol) who've been fishkeeping for decades and know everything there was to know in 1982...

These poor guys have every tom, dick and harry who's got the internet and thinks he knows it all showing up and telling them where they're going wrong all the time.

Often everyone involved has good intentions but it just doesnt go down well!

i dont agree with this comment at all.
this is the reason why so many people are sold the wrong things .
you see it nearly every day on this forum people buying things and then having to take them back beacause of lfs !

Apart from this was a corydoras sterbai mislabelled as an arcuatus, wasn't like it was a giraffe cat or anything. If the shop gets the species wrong then the genus of the fish is usually right, and the requirements for caring for the fish are the same.

Besides, people on this forum that buy fish and take them back usually know full well what the name is, they just didn't research the size that the fish would get to.

If someone really wanted a sterbai then they would know what it looks like, if they just wanted a cory and it happened to be that one then they wouldn't care. It's no big deal either way.

There are thousands of corydoras species and fish shops get thousands of deliveries, there are bound to be a few misplaced labels along the way.

Just let it pass, it's not such a big deal. The way the owner reacted was bad but he probably gets hundreds of customers acting like they know best (I'm not saying you're one of them) so jumped to conclusions.
