Lfs Ornaments Smelling Real Bad?

Last week my nephew was going to buy one of these boats for his fish tank as anyone had one of these from pets@home and what are there like as a ornament? reading this thread makes me think to buy it for his birthday.

I have a very similar boat to that, mine is fine . Although the bits of left over food gather around the bottom of it (but so long as you clean the tank properly it's absolutely fine).

I can say its more than likely its from the build up of gases under the ornament.

I was cleaning the pygmy tank yesterday and lifted up the small ornament in there,i had the same a nasty whiff then i spotted the sand was black,i have had this in the fry tank before also where the gases build up under the sand and cant escape unless its stirred...and if the sand is quite deep it makes it worse...

Ah, yeh, we've got them at our place. You can attach a airline to it. There's no where really for the water to stagnate so it should be fine. I know which company makes those ornaments and we've never had anyone comming back complaining about them.
