Can anyone reccomend any good LFS on the wirral or in Liverpool, or in cheshire but closer to wirral the better, preferably with a good selection of and good quality plants, I know there is the green machine which is in wrexham which I have heard is very good but is a little too far. thanks

Its easy to get to the green machine if you can get on the a483 towards wrexham, just come off at junction 3 , first left up the round about and you follow that road up about a mile and its on the right :good:

not sure about plants but theres waterworld for fish by neston

are you in Wirral Joey

I am and I generally go to Andys Aquatics in New Ferry. Been going there 19 yrs and never had any issues, they sell a broad range of fish as well and often some oddballs

I wouldn;t touch Waterworld for freshwater with a barge pole. stupidly expensive and not a great del of choice

Poulton road aquatics in wallasey. Not bad but limitedchoice. fish look decent though

Meols stretch farm... not bad I;ve often bought fish from there in past but again limited choice and often quite expensive

If your after something unusual you;ll have to travel to the best north west shops like Pier in Wigan or Bas if its still open in Bolton

yeh i can get to wrexham but wanted to find some closer lfs so I know some I could just pop into when I need to, I have been to waterworld but wasn't impressed I bought some plants from there and 2/5 of them were non aquatic and the fish didn't look in great condition

waterworlds marines look ok though

Its a while since i've been but theres a little garden centre of the barnston road, never been keen on plants so wouldn't be able to tell you anything about that but its a nice place with friendly staff, well worth a visit. But the best in the north west is either BAS, pier or WOW manchester.

Yeah im on wirral, I'll check out Andys Aquatics and the one on poulton road in the next few days, I'll also keep a note of the other shops incase I'm in the area any time.

poulton road unusually shut onsundays !!

that one on barnston road is thingwall garden and aquatic centre but never much in there although I ain;t been for a year or so

Its good for outdoor fish and they occasionly have something interesting, they've recently done up their outdoor bit and have a good selection of outdoor fish, their also just about the only place around here which don't sell koi purely based on size which i see as a pro.

well thats good to know cos I was going to buy a new koi

Are we talking about the Thingwall Nurseries place? I was talking to the guy there and he has 54 tanks setup in the back room apparently. He does use individual heaters and filters for each tank to prevent he spread of infections and what not. Most of his stock is good quality however I have noticed there was an outbreak of whitespot and he only quarantined the fish showing the signs of it not the whole tank.

His plant selection is a bit iffy, a few of them aren't aquatic plants although he does also have a reasonable selection of frozen foods/bogwoods and erm outdoor stuff which I don't know much about. I haven't actually seen one dead outdoor fish ever since I've been there.

Big downside is he doesn't understand fshless cycles I've tried explaining it to him about 3 times and he insists I should use fish to do the cycle as my method (adding 4ppm NH3) is not effective.

I will probably be buying some Lemon Tetra from him sometime soon!

Andys Aquatics... I went there a few months back (2 maybe) to buy some white spot treatment however I noticed he had barely any freshwater fish and most of it was marine. Was a little disappointed but the people in the shop did seem like great guys. Although they aren't what you'd expect an experience fish keeper to look like! Nevertheless great greats :good:

Seriously, make the effort and go to The Green Machine. You will have never been anywhere like this before, and the planted tanks are awe inspiring. Your jaw will drop when you first walk in and see the Altum tank in front of you.

Dave.

All I can say to that is "There's a room?", Where is this room?

Well maybe they might have those Panda corys I'm after -_-

Well I went to Andy's aquatics today and was quite impressed they have about 50 tanks for freshwater they are on the k
left in a different room as you go in! The first place I've seen plants with labelled names! THis is what I got today:
microsorum pteropus "narow" a type of java fern I hope lol
Anubias barteri not sure if it was nana because the card in it seemed to go missing but pretty sure it was lol
They were both 6.75 each
a moss ball which I think may have been included in the price of one of the plants otherwise it was free lol.
4 x harlequin rasbora (however I think it maybe a different species as they are very orange compared to my others!)
a live blood worm feeder 1.99
and some Tropica Plant Nutrition+ 250mml 9.95

I have to say all the fish looked healthy and I didn't notice any dead or ill looking fish, and there was a good range. Only thing there was only a small section for food, but on the whole I would recommend it.
