Last Piece Of Advice Needed Before Tank Purchase

Right im going to buy my tank tommorow so i would like one last bit of help, the three things i would love in my tank are male betta, African Dwarf Frogs and some neons. Please can you tell me if they will go togethet and what combination of all 3 would work in a 23l tank and a 46l tank, if i can have 1 betta 2 frogs and 3/4/5 neons in a 23l i will get the new fluval edge but if that combo will not work ill buy the 46l! the betta and neons will mix (not sure about the frog) although 23L is a little on the small size for the neons. so id go for the 46l =]

If you have the space, go for the bigger one. The bigger the tank, the more wiggle room you have with your water parameters. You will notice a problem sooner with a larger volume than without one. And when you notice it, it won't be as big a crisis.


Are you planning on just buying the tank tomorrow, or are you planning on getting some fish as well? I hope you are planning on cycling your tank first.

I've got two african dwarf frogs in my community tank and they have no trouble at all I've also got a vampire crab and he doesn't bother them I've got neons 2 pleccys 3 red eyes a few moss barbs and I've got no problems in there I love my frogs it so funny when they both go for the same blood worm and end up trying to take it off each other lol

Your stocking isn't really ideal. What size is your tank?

Neons are a shoaling fish, best in at least 6. Same goes for red eyes. Finally, what are the pleccys? Do you mean plecos? What type of plecos are they?

I think they'd all go good together but get 5 or more neons because they are shoaling fish. I would go for the 46 because here that's about 11.5 gallons or something and the other is like 6 gallon so if your gonna get that stocking ud be better off with the 46 liter (12 gallon).

46 litres, the bigger the better water wise and if you change your mind in future or want couple extra fish you have the room. Just 1 thing you say your buying your tank today, your not buying the fish aswell are you to go straight in? Good luck with the purchase.

I've got 10 neons and I'm gettin more red eyes soon yeah plecos the common 1s I now my tank is too small for them at the moment but its 130 litres but I'm not planning on keeping them when they get too big what's wrong with my stocking?

Well 2 commons in a small tank will get very territorial and one could possible kill the other, You may stunt the growth of your pleco if you keep in there for to long.

Make sure to cycle your tank before you add fish.

Yeah I was told about the problems with the plecos I was given 1 when I bought the tank but they won't b there long term

The biggest issue was with the plecos. They need to be rehomed... now!

The other issue was with the numbers of neons and red eyes. You didn't mention the neon number - 10 is great. And only 3 red eyes is a bit small. I was also a bit concerned that this was a smaller tank than what you have. It's still far too small for one pleco, let alone two.

How do you keep the vampire crab as i wanted one but was told id have to split my tank half water half 'land'

Yes all i will cycle my tank before adding any fish

No you don't they need to be able to get out and have a little bit of room to walk around I've got bogwood so he can get to the surface and drift wood on the surface so he can walk around he doesn't get out that much though
