Hi
I am soon to be getting a 6'x2'x2' tank 180us gallons(i think) and wanted to confirm my stocking list.
1x Tiger Oscar
1x JD
1x Green Terror
1x Firemouth Cichlid
1x Common Plec
5x Clown Loaches
Filtered heavily by external canister filtration.

Is there possibly anyroom for any more tank mates, are these ones suitable? The current fish(apart from clown loaches) are housed in a 4'x16"x18" 60 gallon so they are for definate(hugely inadequete I know, its only temporary and was my silly fault as a naive beginner, thinking the tank had a larger volume!) They seem to be tolerating each other for now and Im going to put things right very soon.

Thanks.

As they appear to be getting along for now, then you should be fine, however with a JD and a GT you always have to be on the look out for aggression problems, ensure the new tank has plenty of territories and you might get away with it as they grow.

Sound's like a good stocking but the only thing i worry about is how big or the clown's as they take for ever and a day to grow
Obviously the oscar will grow the quickest......
you could have a great community forever or one fish could take a disliking for another and pick on another, so alway's as alway's with south/central american cichlid's air with caution :good:

agreed. hopefully they leave the clowns alone. besides that looks like your list should work. just make sure you have enough hiding places for everyone incase of a scuffle

Thanks for your swift replys, the oscar has grown alot in a short space of time in the 4ft should hopefully take off when I get the 6ft! Are there any other interesting species of fish that could fit into the 6ft and not pose a threat towards the cichlids? A Birchir or a Spiny eel perhaps? Was hoping to add a few more new additions, it may be pushing things I suppose!
Thanks again.

any more fish and you will really need to look into bumping up your filtration.

what kind of filter are you going to be running anyway?

Haven't bought the 6ft yet I have 2 externals, a rena xp2 and an interpet epf350-(quite big) currently and plan to add one more larger external. I will also maintain plenty of aeration ie powerhead or airpump.

those 2 canisters are barely enough to accommodate a light stock list. you will definitely want lo look into either adding a HOB or getting a bigger canister

Cool, I love Bichirs, a really cool fish! I did mention that I plan to add another larger external canister filter! :good:

i know, i was just confirming. you need to keep in mind oscars and plecos are about the messiest fish you can add to a tank, those guys alone will need the extra filtration.
i would personally suggest seeing if you can sell off at least one of your current filters, and purchasing yourself a fx5 canisters.
otherwise, you could go with an AC110 HOB filter. best bang for the buck, and these things will last you forever.

Thankyou both! Im in Southwest England near Bath. There're a couple of decent MH aquatics near me and some decent local garden centres that I could try. I will definetly look into getting an Fx5 as I am going to need some really efficient filtration. Need to look around for a good bargin though I'm a little low on funds! Its going to have to be ebay or maybe someone on here.

even after shopping around, youre looking at around $250 for a fx5. you might be able to find a second hand one a little bit cheaper, but generally these filters retain their value. best can on the market IMO.
