Keeping Sand Clean

hi im just wonderig how you guys go about keeping sand clean as im having trouble using the gravel vac with all the sand coming up aswel

It is tricky to get the hang of. Just takes a bit of practice on how close you go to the sand.

Take the wide end off the gravel vac and just use the tubing,holding it about half an inch off the sand .Works for me.

Thats a good point, I guess the smaller intake increases the pressure so it picks up the muck alot better, shall try this later on today

i had the same problem as you 1st time i done a sand clean i sucked up a load of sand and had a big crater in my substrate lol just keep it like 1/2 inch from the sand as jimmyringo said and use circle motions to lift the waste of the bottom so it can easily get sucked up with out any sand

I have a real sand prolem in my 125L tank as the plants make it hard to clean but the sand in the quaranteen is spotless nearly and i havent cleaned it in 2 weeks.. Cories really do do a great job
