Just Added First Fish

Haha, i was planning on upgrading my filter anyway. I did a bit of searching and found that many people have had problems with tetras and other fish being sucked into the back of it and being chopped. Not nice. I was already considering this, and ill probably go ahead and do it now youve put the idea in my head again.

That the one? Will that be ok for my tank?

ive used the idea with that plant pot, and i like it. The plant was glued into some gravel stuff glued into the pot, a bit of brute force and it came out.

Did you see my test results... Seems odd everything still low after not doing a water change. I just changed 10% just to be on the safe side. Ill post the results after.

Heres a picture of it, what do you prefer, plant or no plant?

No fish in that picture, theyre both hiding behind the plants as they arent used to be messing around with plant pots in their home... :p

Oh and, Ive just ordered a moss ball, thanks for telling me they sold them on ebay

I think the fluval 3 will be to powerful for your tank, it pumps 700ltrs per hour and as you've only got a 60 ltr tank i'd suggest getting the Fluval 2 which is for tanks up to 90 ltrs.

Definately prefer NO plant.

As for your results, sometimes they can play little tricks on you, mine did

I had zero ammonia for 3 days then loads, just keep testing and doing your water changes, even if your ammonia is zero, your nitrITES are going to start to build up and this is just as poisonous as Ammonia.

Thats the one i'd go for it gives you a flow rate of 400 ltrs per hour which is more than enough for a tank of your size, you may even have to turn it down a little, but i'd go for that one.

If it's the same as my fluval then it'll have 4 suckers on the back, attach them to your filter and stick it on your glass.

Hi there you look like your getting the hang of doing the testing and water changes, dont worry most of us have had to go through the fish-in cycling thanks to bad advice from lfs lol,
before you get the filter can i suggest having a look on ebay they have them for a lot cheaper, and any money saved in this hobby helps lol

Thats alright then. I hav e to be careful as anything that hangs to the side wont work because of the lid

The only problem you might have is the power cable, your lid might not close properly, all you'd need to do is either live with it, which is what i do as i'm putting that filter into another tank, or cutting a small hole in your lid to accomodate the cable.

Don't forget though only add the new filter when your tank has fully cycled.

If you do get a new filter, I would also suggest the fuval 2. You don't have to wait until after the cycle, but you do need to move the media(sponges, pads, ect...) from your old filter to the new one. (You can cut the up and stuff to get them to fit if you need too.) If you don't move the media the tank will have to recycle all over again.

I think id rather wait and let the cycle finish... Just seems a better idea to me, then ill run the other filter in the tank

Yes, thats the way I'd suggest, waiting until your first filter has cycled.

It was the fluval 2 I had, and I think it was about £25 from pets at home but I'm sure you can get it cheaper on ebay or elsewhere on the internet.

Yes I think your tank looks good with the pot idea on its side, I put mine in ages ago and the fish seem to like it as it is somewhere that they can rest. If you need anymore, you can buy them from arts amd craft stores such as hobbycraft for about 25p.

Your tank is looking good, better than my elite 60 looked :p I like live plants in a tank and they help with your water stats but that is totally personal preference.
