Thanks GF.

Do you think I'll be ordering enough if i purchase:

4 - Dwarf Sag plants (1 order = 10 plant)

5 - Mexican Oak Leaf (3 orders)

6 - Hygrophila Corymbosa (1 order)

7 - Ludwiga Repens (3 orders)

8 - Hygrophilia difformis (3 orders)

9 - Hygrophila Polysperma (2 orders)

0 - Hygrophila Polysperma (tropic sunset) (2 orders)

It's a 55 gallon tank (48" x 12.75 x 19).
They're all bunched plants so 1 order = 6-8 stems.

Do you think I'd be ordering enough of each one? or you think that will be too much?

I think on a rough calculation you probably have enough.

If you work it on the basis that you need 2 bunches per 5 gallons of water, and given that bunches are usually considered 4-6 stems, i think if i did my quick calculations correct you have enough.

Is this a new tank and is the filter cycled?

But i agree with gf your looking good so far.

Ok, cool :)

Yeah, i did a fishless cycle with filter media from established 20 gallon. Took 14 days. Anyway.

Thanks :)

Well i was going to tell you the good news that you wouldnt have to cycle the tank at all, the plants would have done it for you with the amount of bunches you are putting in.

Wow, I knew plants used nitrates, but they can get rid of ammonia too? That's awesome.

Hondour: Not sure yet, I'm thinking about ordering them today or tomorrow with next day delivery, letting them recouperate by floating in the tank, and then planting on the weekend...

LookN GooD!

Gonna pick up some new plants this week myself...
The ones in my tank now are growing like crazy too :)

Give us a new pic then Walt!

Lights arrived today. Just ordered my plants.

Thanks mate.

I thought the plants would ship today and arrive tomorrow but they didn't ship today. Hopefully they'll ship tomorrow and arrive Friday.

Edit: Scratch that, just got shipping confirmation. Rock! \m/

Oh. My. God.

My house was a disaster zone tonight. I seriously screwed up.

I decided to go with flourite. Rinsed it. Was still mucky. Figured it would be fine. Stripped tank down. Removed some sand. Mixed flourite with remaining sand. Struggled to syphon out the last 1/3 of the tank water. It was REALLY dirty - kinda like a cow took a big diarrhea crap in my tank. Put layer of sand on top. Filled tank up again. Took about 4 hours. Plants are still not in. Crazy!

Is there a methodical way of planting the plants into the substrate?

Well, I planted it. Man! What a job!
My shipment from Aquariumplants was very generous with a few extra bunches here and there :)

Will take pics soon and post. Doesn't look impressive right now though :S

Boy.. that sure sounds like FUN! ;)

Here's some pics of mine so far!

As you can see, the plants are growing like crazy!
I topped this plant, as you can see in the foreground, and its about to the top again within a week!

The only problem im having right now is the water has turned abit green... no doubt cause my CO2 slowed down while i was on vacation last weekend...
I now have the duel ladders in there pumping away and should be back on track soon...
What would YOU do about the green water?

Walt

Looks good walt. The plant growth is really impressive!!

I don't know what I'd do about the green water. Freak out probably. LOL I'm really hoping I don't have to cross that bridge!

Here's a pic of mine, just freshly planted. I can already see some new growth on the mexican oak leaf. It really grew quite a lot overnight tonight! Oh, and I just doubled up on my CO2. I think I need to replace the mixture in the oldest bottle also.

(edit: Hang on, new computer, gotta figure out how to transer digital pics across)

I'm a little worried that I cramped everything to the back too much. I already pulled te dwarf sags forward some, I may do the same for the mexican oak leaf.
