These two were advertised as "Hemichromis bimaculatus" at my Lfs, in your opinions do you think this is right???

Now I have a dilemma. I thought they were an "American" cichlid, wrong, they are "African", another mistake
Could they co-habit with my current stocking in the 75g? So far, after a week there has been no sign of any aggression, initally the Blue Acara took a swipe at one but soon regretted it, it was pinned in the corner and has never happened again. All occupants appear to be very placid with one another which seems really unusual given the bad reports of the "Jewel".

Assuming they will co-habit, which I am eager to try, is it possible to sex them?

I believe this to be MALE. (Forehead)

And Female. (Slender)

Forgot to mention they are both around 5.5-6" total length with slighty damaged caudal fins.

I thought Jewel's were American also...

Just did a quick search and came across this..

A quote from HERE (cichlids on wiki) ...

Diferences in sex are fairly simple. The blue specks on the male's caudal fin form a semicircle, on the female the specks are all jumbled and patternless. The male also has a pointed dorsal fin whereas the female has a rounded dorsal fin.
