Hi

I'm soon to be getting a juwel rio 125. I've currently got a small 20l with a fluval mini filter. The fluvals sponge is small at aproximately 5X4cm. I know you can use established media to start a new aquarium, but will this be big enough to work in a 125 litre?, thanks

Depends on the donor stocking, and the recipient stocking.

What's the filter capacity I would of thought if the filter is too small it won't be able to circulate all of the water

i'm not planning on using the actual filter, just the filter media in the juwel rios internal filter

in the 20 litre is a betta, and in the rio im planning on having the betta, and 10 neons

In the new filter, cut a space out the new sponge and add the old sponge, think you might need to do a few daily water changes but shouldn't be a full cycle.

If you are moving your Betta then moving the filter media that is used to supporting the Betta will be enough to support it in it's new home. When you add any other fish you will need to do it gradually. Probably 2 lots of 5 a week apart. You will probably have to do a 50% w/c the day after adding them though. Thats the way i would do it. If you have a test kit then you will be able to work out how much and how often you need to w/c.

or just put the media before the new sponge? so the flow of water passes the bacteria though the filter

i guess every little helps. is your betta going to switch tanks with your media?, because if not whats going to filter the betta tank
