Yes I do it all the time!

Its unsafe not to in fact, as when turned off, the bacteria on the filter would start to die back .

the only reason i asked was becuase i didnt want to wake up to an airpump on fire, because mine gets quote warm

i run mine 24/7 on both tanks ,all air pumps get pritty warm but thats ok,ive got mine sitting on spounge washing pads .helps to to keep them quite lol

Most air pumps get quite warm but if it is so hot you can't put your hand on it there is something wrong. Make sure there is room around the air pump for room air to circulate freely and to remove that heat. Any uncooled electrical item is a fire hazard if you don't allow the heat to escape.

Also be aware that if you have the airpump BELOW the level of the water and you are switching it off sometime you need to invest in a check-valve for a couple of quid, otherwise the water can syphon back up the airline, and into the airpump
