Queen's English has different words spanner lift fag boot (translation wrench, elevator, cigarette, car trunk ) What would happen if txt was used on tests? For those whose native language is not english this can be very confusing. My ideas may be dated as I've passed the half century mark but texting shouldn't be used on forums not all of us can understand all of it I have trouble understanding my kids slang nevermind txt. Don't get me started on cells (lol).

I get annoyed, too, at the people who don't bother to type whole words or sentences. But, what really gets me is when someone is trying to type exactly what they mean, but get very common words wrong. The following are just a few examples:

they're than too
there

and let us not forget the two words that very few people seem to understand:

The pneumono word use to be on this after-work-time game show about every other week, I reckon a lot of people my age could have told you the answer to that one

Okay well I am 16 years old. I am "one with the mobiles." i would say i go thru on average of about 3 mobiles a week. some of these only have like 60 characters for txting!! thats why TXT was created. so you could put as much as you can into that small space.
on this forum, you get as much space as you need. i am jut wasting space hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
i would never think about doing this in a text.
also, i think its easier to type "normally" on the computer. i think the most "slang" i use is probably g2g and thats only when i HAVE to go. some times i forget to put that.

and chavs!! dont get me started on chavs. omg i frikkin hate em! just coz they hang round in groups of about 30 they think they are solid by coming up t me when im with my girlfriend sayin "ere mate, are you ard?" WHY THE HELL WOULD I SAY YES WHEN ALL YOUR GONNA DO IS JUMP ON ME!?!! grrr i just let my girlfriend do all the talkin

Most text or leet style topics I click on I don't even bother with because of a concern for miscommunication. I'll use ammo for ammonia, or bio for biological, but that is forum specific, and I try to use the full spelling if I'm not sure the proper message will be conveyed. I think it's common courtesy for other members here.

I really watch my language here; I have to remember this is a family forum. What you are reading is not how I normally speak; I would get booted in less than a day if I were to type how I actually talk. I also usually copy & paste into here from ms word, just to eliminate typos caused by fat finger syndrome.

I don't see why I should give up using netspeak for other people why can't they just let me? I mean like all of you understood what i was writing in my posts so that obviously shows that you can read netspeak easily so whats the point of stopping? I mean what I was writing was pretty hardcore as far as netspeak goes but if I was to write something like this:

Its not hard to tell that that translates to why do you always do that to your fish. Thats about as far as people are going to go using netspeak on this website and anyone who can't understand that is well not very bright.

I understand that, other than it takes me about 3 times as long to read. I find it very annoying, probably as annoying as you would find me posting how I actually talk.

You are free to type however you want. In fact , if someone wanted to ask questions in French or Italian that's OK with me too. Some of us are just trying to point out that there are drawbacks. Many people will misunderstand you and many more will ignore you. No one is saying you can't type in txt. Just don't expect to be accomodated.

I understand that txt speak is meant to save typing time... but why type 'du' when for the same amount of time and keystrokes you can type 'do'? Why type 'alwayz' when replacing the 'z' with an 's' would take no more space or time?
