do people think this a fair price to ask or am i being a little optimistic

nd aquatics tank is this a size 48 x 24 x 18 complete with cabinet
double t8 lights with reflectors
2 x 150 w heaters
all just over a year old

tetratec ex1200 less than a year old

lots of extras food, bogwood with xmas moss attached etc.

hoping to get around the £350 mark

it doesnt seem a fair price compared to what it all cost new. the only thing is that you can pick up a 4ft tank for under £100 so the casual looker might dismiss it straight away. i sold a fluval roma 240 with cabinet, external and lots of bits n bobs for about £130 a while back.

ND tanks are good tanks but not everyone is aware of them so it has better chance of getting good vibes on a forum like this where most are aware of ND. i guess it depends on how fast you need it gone tbh, if its not essential how fats it goes then stick to the price for a while and then maybe drop it by £50 in a few weeks...

remeber people dont have loads of cash to chuck about at the minute and they will be after the real cheap bargains

i'm not in a hurry to get rid of it,i will just see how things go.

its about half price to when bought new

it is a good deal but fishtanks lose so much value from new especially larger tanks, a bit like cars in a way...... hang on at that price and if its becoming a pain then lower it a bit. £50 less can make all the difference to a buyer but also to the seller

well the breakdown of the tank has began. most of the fish are now on e-bay,next to list will be the bogwood with the moss and anubias attached to it. not enjoying it at all

just been offered £25 for my breeding pair of calico bristlenose plecs

well i sold all my stock and bought new stock to try and rekindle my passion, but to no avail.all will go on e-bay at the weekend

Going back to the original question from personal experience I believe that you will always get more if you break the tank down and sell the bits separately. It is a lot of effort and you have to weigh that up but someone may pay ten quid for a single piece of bogwood, or 3 for a moss ball, but these will not add any value if you're selling as people will generally have their own ideas of how they want to decorate.

My advice would always be strip it down, get rid of stock, clean it out completely and sell everything apart from tank, cabinet, filter and possibly heater separately. I have recently sold two tanks this way at over 50% what I paid for them new, just the tank (one with cabinet) and filter, because they were scrubbed up and ready for the new owner to put their stamp on. I sold a couple of filters, heaters, fish and wood separately and probably made back twice as much as if I had bunged it all in together. Strange but true.

Anything is worth what someone else will pay for it!

Trouble is, what is worth £350 to you may not be worth the hassle to someone else.

My friend was looking for a second hand tank a few years ago. Travelled quite a way, looked at a few tanks, but all had bad scratches or damaged in some way, even though they were advertised 'as new'. Just one big waste of time and petrol.

Bought new one from LFS and didn't have to worry about transport etc and had guarentee. To her it was worth the extra £200 she had to pay.
