i went to a maidenhead aquatics this morning and they were charging £4.50 for 1 pgymy cory!!! i think that is a bit too much to charge for one fish and most of the fish in the shop was between £2.50 - £7.00 for just one,
just wondering is that pretty expensive or usual for fish to be that price now a days?

Thanks

Hi Jodiem :)

That converts to about $6.44 US, and does seem to be a high price for them. If you scroll down you will see the price I paid for mine:

Fish prices do seem to be going up around here, but so is everything else. In addition to the increased costs of running a business, the lfs has to pay more for shipping costs and taxes before he can sell any imported fish to you.

it depends by store at maiden head. my local. one does a skunk cleaner shrimp for £10 and the other one about 5 miles away does them for £20. do you have another one near by? or can you bulk buy?

I've found the same thing between MHA stores on dry goods, API Freshwater Master Test Kit £30 at one store & £24 at another!

Even though I've only had fish for just over 2 years, I've also noticed that prices are rising steadily. Ho hum.... guess that means I'd best buy more tanks & fish now before they get even more expensive :hey: :sly:
...don't tell my hubby though!

It is time to join a fish club Jodie. Members are often breeding different things and each of us treats our surplus as trading materials. The end result is that fish, some of them quite rare in a fish shop, can often be had at much less than retail prices. Plants are often also available in much better quality than at the LFS but at a much lower price too. You end up spending money on hardware, not fish, in that situation.
