Is Sending Fish Via Mail/Courier Ok In Your Eyes?

In the future though i would not use The Royal mail again, it would have to be a fish courier.

My last package of Live stock (cameo and the shrimp) was sent out by Royal Mail Special Delivary Before 1PM... guess what time it arrived 12.59. You could see the man delivering it running, try to deliver it before the clock hit 1!
Omg! :hyper:    i laughed so baddly at that xD!!!!

in the UK

it is illegal to use a carrier ( including royal mail) to transport livestock unless they have a valid animal welfare licence for the animals being moved.

there are only one or two courier firms ( & a few independents) that have this.

It is your responsibility to ensure the carrier has the appropriate licences.

Royal mail does not, hold a livestock licence on any of its services.(other than a few special services that are not aquatic & cost a bomb.... medical etc)

You are liable for any damage caused should your package leak, and have no defence if they are fish and not declared as such.(once the carrier accepts a package declared as fish etc they shoulder some of the responsibility... duty of care etc)

If your package ends up as air freight (even internal mail) you can end up in a world of crap for transporting undeclared liquids.( a packet from say london to edenburgh may well go via holland)

My advice is learn how to bag & pack professionally and use a licensed courier like APC. then its no big deal for almost any fish, although you will not be able to insure for loss in transit

What about when you live 200miles from the nearest city, and next day delivery means about 3days

I;ve bought fish that arrived the next morning by special courier, no problems at all.
But I would not post fish myself - not confident that I would do it properly, and
would therefore only accept buyer collecting them personally.

Not lazy - just don't feel that I have the expertise to post livestock .... simples !
