Is My Molly About To Give Birth?

when females are ready to drop their fry near the gravid spot it will become dark and little tiny dots will appear like the pic below.

although it is difficult to tell with these balloon mollies, you just have to watch if she gets larger in size. i do believe she is pregnant your fish, but not sure how far along.

ive been reading loads of sites with info on baloon mollys and it seems the gravid spot is not always easy to see with them. i cant see anything as yet but id say she is definately squared off so could be anytime soon, who knows lol

My balloon molly completely suprised me with fry. She didn't have a gravid spot...

this one definately hasnt but she certainly looks and is showing all the signs of being pregnant, shes in with the corys on there own now and seems very happy

You won't have to worry about the cories eating fry at all so they can grow up in there. I have 3 cories in my fry tank. Good luck!

Miss Molly is now going absolutely mad, for the last hour she's been swiming from the bottom to the top of the tank over and over again, swiming against the flow of the filter and pushing her way through the plants in the tank

still no signs of any baby mollys yet, mums still massive though

Time to put her in a trap m8 if you have one, leave her in overnight and turn lights of in the tank earlier than normal, when you get up in the morning if she aint dropped her fry then see how it goes for 1 more night, if she aint dropped after 2 nights then release her, this way she become too stressed :)

5teady they put this fish in a different tank with just cories so there really isn't a need for a trap IMO.

lindsey88, i moved her back today as she was just sat in the corner looking pretty sorry for herself. The first few days she seemed very happy and was even showling with the corys but this changed and she would just sit in the corner out the way

That can actually be a sign that she is in labor. Did it look like she was breathing hard?

If you want to save babies I would put her back with the cories. I had a female platy die of stress just from being in a breeding trap for a day. I don't risk it anymore. Other people have had luck with them but I haven't... You could watch her like a hawk and try to scoop up babies that you find. It's hard with balloon mollies to know exactly when they will drop since they are so fat already...
