I tested my water yesterday and my results were 0 for amonia, nitrate and nitrite. i've had some white cloud minnows in tank whilst it has been cycling.

now that my results are what they are is it safe to get a pair of rams as i was going to get them tonight if so?

i would definately add a different fish first than a ram - rams prefer mature tanks
what other fish have you got in mind and what are you going to do with the poor minnows?

i think keep them they've grown on me and im sure 2 are ready to spawn. i hav 2 sections separated for fighters so may go for 1 of them instead

It would not be fair to keep wcminnow and bettas in the same tank as bettas need a lot higher temps than minnows (which are basically cold water fish)
you also need to make sure your water movement is very low from your filter as they betta will get blown around too much
it's only a 2 ft tank and if you are seperating it them the minnows would only have 1ft of swimming space which is not enough for the fish , although they are small they need plenty of swimming room

That's kind of weird that the nitrate is 0? Did you just do a water change and then check it? There should be at least trace amounts of nitrate in a cycled tank.

What kind of test kit do you use? Is it a liquid one like an API?

the minnows have 16inches and the flow is low for the fighters. but if u advise i may get rid of them but they seem to be doing well

sorry i put nitrate was 0 as there was a trace of nitrate but couldn't remember exactly what it was but it was a safe amount. i got the test done in my lfs so not sure which kit but i think its api

just have a good read on the bettas and post your filter type etc in the betta section so they can let you know wether it is low enough for the betta

i have done a lot of research on bettas and have previously kept one and know my flow is absolutely fine for them
