Is He Ill?

Have to say never seen any of mine scratch of the substrate or anything else for that matter are you sure thats what they are doing?

Yeah I thought slimecoat/mucus. pH was neutral last night, i'll get the test kit out again now...

Oh, I thought I posted that before. Anyway...

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0 (quite a few plants)
pH: 7.0

I also tested my hardness the other day which I didn't post:

KH: 120
GH: 50

Anything out of the ordinary there?

He's back resting in my tree trunk ornament now after eating a bit. One thing I did notice aswell before was he had a huge poo hanging out of his behind, about an inch long. I've not seen this before as usually he only goes when being fed. A sign of anything? Thanks for all your help.

Also I looked at him through a magnifying glass and all the stringy slimey goo had gone. Like I said, it's only when he's been sat around for a while.

yea i have heard a lot of malawi are supposed to do it my JD swam then like itched himself my acara did this 2 my mate has had his fish do it once in a while i was thinking it may still be ich but there is no fast gill movement or spots i dont wanna be adding more meds to it though unless anybody knows if interpet no.6 affects the filter it says it doesnt on the box

What colour was the poo?
Going to ask colin t to take a look at the thread.
You did add the flubenol didn't you.
Fish can flick and rub and produce more slime coat if the ph changes.

It was dark brown as normal. Thanks!

Also yes I dosed flubenol on Monday and Myxazin Tuesday, Wednesday. Nothing yet today.

i think thats what mine must be doing ist been a ropey week with my tank with the nitrite spike to it might just be adjusting to being stable again

Pm colin for you so he can take a look and see if he can come up with anything.
The flubenol should of killed the adult parasites and parasites can cause fish to produce more slimecoat.

Flukes cause bacterial infections as they carry a nasty bacteria which enter the fish bloodstream when it pierces the skin.
It's best to back up with a bacterial med after you have got rid of the parasite.
Think I would of used anti internal bacteria med by interpet than myxazin but that just me.

Foley what symtoms is your fish showing.
If you have had a nitrite spike fish can flick and rub in bad water quality.
Finrot is mainly caused by bad water quality, but some asked if your fish had been nipped by other tank mates.

theres no aggression just i had a nitrite spike might be due to uneaten pellets i found under the ship the they were flicking and rubbing and the pectoral fins on my threadfin are like shredded almost looks like fin rot and has just started on my JD they keep repairing then ripping again

I would put the flicking and rubbing down to the nitrite spike.
If a fish is nipping his fins it might be better to rehome him.
Don't know much about cichlids so don't answer posts on here usually.
Got asked by a member to take a look at this thread.

i think the damaged fins may be burns from the nitrite spike i will just do a 15% water change every other day

Sorry i'm tired and read it wrong thought it said nipping.
if there no improvement in a few days you might need to use a bacterial med.
Bad water quality takes it's toll on fish weakening the fish immune system and thinning a fish slimecoat.
Signs of finrot are.
White edging to fins.
Translucent fins, cloudy looking fins, and siometimes the fins can look slimey.
Fins falling apart.
Holes in fins.
Red edging to fins and red streaks can be septicemia.

If the fins were burnt they would look black.
