Internal Parasites? Internal Bacterial?

He's in with Furnaol II and some aquarium salt at the moment. He's looking worse today - resting on the bottom and not as interested in his surroundings.

He still reacts when I come to say hello but isn't swimming up to me. I had to leave him to go onto campus so maybe he was just sleepy this morning, but he has me worried.

I hope the anti-parasite meds come soooon!

Bless him.
It's not sounding to hopeful at the moment.
Meds can knock fish, if there really weak they tend to finish the fish off.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
Good Luck.
Thanks for the update.

Spoke to Matthew who was at home today and he says Deimos varied between being fairly active and being very lethargic.

He came to see me when I got home and then went back to sitting on the bottom. Bless him.

Will keep you updated.

EDIT - Just "dissected" some fish poop!

Well, I think that's what it was. A small coil of brown stuff I found on the bottom of the tank. Looked like poop to me.

Mostly brown and icky, but there was a thin string of something pale inside it. Could be a partially digested bloodworm . . . but it was pretty long and thin. Didn't look living but definitely a string of something rather than particles or mush.

Ideas? Undigested food? Something more sinister?

He's had a single bloodworm today because he was asking for it but he's still full from yesterday so I didn't want to over feed. He's hunting for more food now, bless.

Maybe he's bored?

Update - he seems to be getting some colour back! Just a tiny bit if blue iridesence on his body and fins, but that's something!

He's also fairly active today as well, and he is definitely pooping.

Wish him luck :)

it could of been a bloodworm.
Also you should start to see dead worms coming out of the fish, or in the tank water, or substrate.

Hoover the substrate up to get rid of them.

It's sounding more promising, bless him.

Just an update!

Deimos has an unfortunate run-in with the filter which has left him with very little finnage! However, despite this he seems to be doing fairly well. A little tiny bit of colour has returned, he is pooping and he's had a course of both anti-bacterial and anti-parasite meds. He's still in isolation and under very close observation but he's eating well, pooping well and fairly active.

Once he gets some colour back and I see some definite fin regrowth, he's going back into his old tank.

Thanks for the update.

Let us still know how he gets on.
Good Luck.

Is it possible to overdose on IAL?

I got some IAL 'tea bags' and they are a lot more potent than I anticipated! The water is rather dark now and he's seeming a bit off . . . hmmm.

What's IAL?
I would do a water change if the med making him off it. It will dilute the med down.

Indian almond leaf. Old betta tonic - apparently it lowers pH, improves vitality and colour of the fish and has anti-bacterial properties.

He's seeming better again. Colours are great - not what they were but he has some beautiful blues and reds in his fins again and his body has a stong greeny-blue sparkle to it. He's moderately active and while he does need to rest a lot, he's spending time at the front of the tank again instead of always hiding.

I put him back into his old tank today. Apart from the wounds from the filter, he seems much, much better. I've got some more bettas arriving tomorrow so I need the Q/T tank.

I am worried that he might have some permanent damage from the filter incident - he's quite active but seems "stiff" in his back, and is having a little trouble swimming. His caudal is totally clamped and he has a patch of bad scales and no colour on his back end, where the filter cut him. I hope it repairs :-(

Bless him.
I would of treated him abit longer myself.
Let me know how he gets on, bless him.

I've not been treating him for a good few days as the course of treatment ended - he's just been under oberservation and with extra IAL and aquarium salt in his water.

I can put him back as the new fish were not shipped due to the weather. Wish I'd known that before I moved him =(

Ok.
If you think he's ok leave him be. As the stress of moving him again might not help.
