Just got back from Florida, where of course I collected some shells from the Gulf Coast. I was sorting through them a few minutes ago, and realized that one of the pretty little conch shells was alive! I don't have a marine aquarium, and I put out an emergency call to the local Freecycle group, but is there anything I can do for it in the meanwhile?

This has NOT been a good week.

Gosh, I have no idea really; can you get it in some salt water? with some kind of air stone/filter at all?

Does your lfs have a marine section? If so, take it to them.

If only I HAD an LFS!!! The nearest one is two hours away ... one way!

UGH ... I feel horrible.

If you have any water left from there you picked it from keep it in that, other than that there's nothing you really can do without access to RO water and aquarium salt.

I have aquarium salt but don't know what RO water is.

RO stands for reverse osmosis, it is a method of purifying water, by removing everything except water from it, your tap water will probably contain copper that will kill the Conch.

you can use distilled if they don't have RO (same thing, different methods)

most stores and grocers carry it with the bottled water
