So, today I was doing a trade in. I was given some store credit so I started looking around. Guess what I found? A breeding pair of adult Firemouths! 20 bucks for the pair, plus 3 of their 1 inch long fry! I feel like it was a good deal! They seem to be doing okay at the moment. They are in a 47g tank by themselves. Hopefully they can fill it up!(with fry I mean!). I will post pictures later tonight!

Here is a picture of the fry. I would surmise that they are about 1 inch long.

Here is 2 pictures of the adults. The male is on the bottom, and the female on top.

Now, I believe that they are close to breeding, as I think I saw the beginning of the females breeding tube distended from her anus.

Nice deal! Keep an eye on the older fry, they may not appreciate them being around if they spawn again.

Thank you! Do you know how their tank should be laid out? It's barren except for a few pieces of slate rock and stone. The parent's seem to be very shy. Especially the female, which I am thinking is due to the barren environment. On the other hand, the fry (i have yet to move them), are all over the tank.

So, I will upload a picture later, but I added quite a bit of rockwork to the tank. The parent's seem a lot more outgoing now. But they are still very shy. I moved their fry, and 2 of the 3 died. The other one looks healthy though.

interested to see if they breed for you!!! sorry about the two little ones! keep us posted on the other little guy!!

:rip: to the 2 firemouths fry. :byebye:

sounds pretty great apart from to 2 babies. i don't have too much expierience so i wanna work up some before getting any cichlids as i have tried before and it was very unsucessful

I am still working on the pictures. THey will be up by tonight though, i promise. Also, i have a question about them. The male and the female are always by eachother, but the male seems to chase her a lot. Now, she has no ripped fins, and she doesn't hide behind the filter either. But he is bullying her. Is it just because he wants to breed and she isn't ready?

Hi

I have 3 Adult FM's and they are the same and have been since I first got them. The male is always bullying the female but she stays right by his side and never has any damaged fins or scales and occasionally gives him a bashing back. So I wouldn't worry.

I find FM's are all bark and no bite anyway.....
