its been bugging me that my tank is under filtered for ages now just been waiting for the money to do something about it. at last in the next week or so i will be in a position to order my eheim 2080 that ive had my eye on. i currently run an eheim 2028 im planning to transfer all my mature media straight into the 2080 and top up with new.

would i be better off spreading the mature media evenly through the new filter put it all in 1 big load or put most of it in 1 place and spread the rest in the other baskets to seed them?

My preference would be spread it out, more at the bottom where the water 1st flows thru (assuming it does in an eheim) 1st.

so what about if i was to completely fill 1st basket the spread the rest evenly thru the rest

jolly good thats what i will do cheers. prob be orderin middle to end of next week. ooooo a new toy

yes very perhaps i should take up something exciting like train spotting

they want 60 quid for the media pack. sod that!!! as im using all the mature media from my 2028 how much extra media do you rekon i will need to buy.

for the filter it gives canister volume and filter volume do i subtract 1 from the other to work out how many litres of media?

Daylight robbery mate, just get some extra filter sponges, bio rings etc and add as many as needed when it arrives. I dont and never have used eheim, but thats nuts, why dont they just put media in it when its bought?

Have you considered something else, cheaper, tetratec ex2400 or FX5 perhaps?

some eheims come with media some dont. when it comes to externals id only ever use eheim. would consider tetratec once the brand is more established. no offence fluval fans but wouldnt use 1 if you paid me.

totally agree on the fluval front

TT's are VERY good they are just under rated.

although i must admit i would go eheim.

i hear good things about tetratec just a pretty new kid on the block as it were
