I would go with Discus Personally i had a 190L tank and wanted them but would have looked bare with just 4 discus and i know they like to be in goups of 6 plus so i ended up getting African Cichlids. You could get a canny group of them like! would look awesome the amount you could have! . That gets my vote if your stopping with tropical :-

Tanganyika or discus...
Although i do love the aggressive american cichlids but they'll just give u a big tank with so little fish

A Tanganyika setup (really been inspired by EliseW, doresy and kiriyama) or an understocked SAP setup.

Definitely a Tanganyika setup :good: :good: :D

I'd definitely put fish in it!

I'm gonna say Discus coz I love them and I've never heard of the other ones (Tanganyikan).

Discus discusss discussssssss +1 :D a huge root collection with some S/A Anubias (personal favourite) plants here and there and everywhere around sides and back with big open viewing space coming through the middle oooof yes please baby!!

:hyper:

I would go with a planted Discus tank, maybe with some Torpedo Barbs or Scarlet Tetras.

And don't forget the Corydoras :p Perhaps the Davidsandi Corys or Julii, Sterbae's are really nice too.

And a Blue Phantom Plec :p

Hi youve just made this a harder decision. ha ha
i would have to do more research if i was getting the tanganyikan tank not too sure what i would need any advice?
Also ive noticed they need high PH, my tap water is just below 7 so how would i raise it to 8+?
Is there any other type of fish i can keep in a Tanganyikan setup?
Thanks
Lloyd

personally having had discus , i would say think about what you want from the fish . if you want big characters and personality/mischeif then discus arent for you. if you want lots of interaction and personality from your fish id be thinking along the lines of building a tank around a severum with a few other moderate sized sa cichlids. if its the sheer beauty/colour of discus that is the appeal for you , then why not consider an mbuna setup? these fish will be extreemely active and there will be a lot more "life" in the tank than with discus. and few freshwater fish can get near mbuna in terms of striking colours .

I'd do a huge shoal of green neons with marbled hatchets for the top and corys for the bottom, with maybe a whiptail or two ;)

hi thanks im still not decided but oscars were on my list and sevs i wish i had like 6 tank too keep everything i want to :(
the water in my current tank is 6.6 so would be better for new world cichlids, but im not sure how (or if its posable) to raise PH to a african cichlid level.
Thanks
Lloyd
