Ideas For A 25 Gal Stocking

A partial Tanganyikan might work, shell-dwellers with surface dwellers, like ocellatus with African Butterfly ;)

Apparently in bigger tanks, keepers stock shell-dwellers with the likes of Rainbows, using them for colour and their use as a dither, that will normally stay away from the tank bottom.

Right after some deliberation and throwing ideas about, I think I've come up with a final stocking list.

A pair or trio of apisto nijsseni OR apisto borelli (not decided which one yet  ) Any ideas or experience with either?
10-12 Pseudomugil furcatus (forktail blue eye rainbowfish)
6-8 khuli loach
Cherry shrimp (start with about 20-30, may add more at later time unless they breed)

Any suggestions or comments on the above? Only possible problem I can see is the apistos with cherry shrimp, will the shrimp be ok being in a larger group?

Ive kept both types of apisto. Both did well in a community tank. I personally prefer the way nijsseni look. Theres not much difference between the to apart from looks so its just upto which type you like best really.

I think that the stock list looks sound :) I would go for the Panduro because the females look really cool as well but a high quality male Borrelli is a sight to behold it really is!

With the cherry shimp I think the pandas will be safer with them as they grow smaller. So long as your initiall colony started breeding fast enough it will keep up the numbers of the group and should replenish its self as the apistos etc take out a few babies.

Hi,

What about kribs? Will they eat the shrimp as well? I'm guessing so

I'm trying to find a nice colourful pair of something for a centrepiece fish, ideally a type of cichlid but I also want cherry shrimp so options are limited.

Any ideas?

Yeah I reckon kribs would eat them, maybe laetacaras would be peaceful enough not to eat them or nannacaras?
