Id Needed

Alot of sites say keep them only with Jaguar Cichlids,Red Devils,Jack Dempsys etc so they must be pretty bad ###### :p

I have been doing some research and theres noway my little Acara is a Green Terror thank god :)

Well, that is GREAT! Those cichlids, I know by reading books, are quite agressive, the ones you listed that is.

Not a GT, not a chance, nothing like mine at all.

FOR THOSE IN THE CHEAP SEATS - ITS A BLUE ACARA!!!!

It's a blue acara. It's not the one with the yellow fin edging (apparently about 3-5 different fish are called blue acara), but it's still a blue acara.

His top fin has yellow/orange edging.

Bare in mind these pics was 2 mins after he was released into the tank so he was stressed/flushed.

No way is it a GT don't worry. I would say it's a young female blue acara great little fish. Like I said before I have 3 of them a breeding pair and one male. My female looks like your fish the head shape in the females is more of a slope where the males is a bit more squared off.

Just been told it is a Hybrid by Maidenhead Aquatics (where i bought him)...possibly of a GT + BA but he cannot be sure.

They named it 'Andinoacara latifrons' and not Pulcher for some reason...they said the difference is mine has silver fin edgeing (instead of gold) and a brighter colored body (green instead of blue)

I informed him that if he gets aggressive i'll be taking him back..I have read on Monster Fishkeepers forums countless threads on JUVI Green Terrors killing ADULT Oscars so god knows what they will do to my prize Geos and Sevs.

Not that that is teh issue right now,the issue now is getting my bigger firemouth to stop beating it up! lol

I guess that's what makes cichlid communities so hard. If individual personality of the fish wasn't enough trouble, then there's trying to guess how all the hybrids (or mislabeled fish) will act in the tank. Let alone all the species needing taxonomic description/revision.

True that, same goes for Kribs,Severums,Firemouthes and pretty much every fish in my tank tho, they are all hybrids of some sort. (except for the rainbows + plec)

So far my community has worked brilliantly but I do run into problems when I add a new fish. (aggression)

Just been in contact with Maidenhead again and they gave me this info....

Its a Hybrid between a Blue Acara and a Silver Saum

Silver saum: the original "green terror",lacks the bright orange fin tips of the commercially available green terror.

Oh Shiz...

Silver saum wasn't the original gt, but i guess that's not really your main concern. I wonder how much aggression will come out in the hybrid?

Me to..... none so far tho,he stands his ground but no attacks thus far.

Seen some real Green Terrors both silver and Golden in Watermarque in Yeovil earlier (only £6 each for 1"-5" mixed GT's very colourful) And my guy is definitley a Acara,Maidenhead were talking rubbish lol.

While I was there I got some wood like Minxys...looks wicked although expensive!! lol

Heres a few more of my Blue Acara varient (whatever the F it is)

I like the second picture the best. Was that just the reflection of the camera, or is he usually like that in real sight?
