Just because it looks very much like a blue acara, doesn't mean you can rule out hybrid straight away. As you have no idea which genes are recessive and which are dominant. I'd still keep a close eye on the tank.

The second picture was taken with flash, so the colours will be brighter as there's more light to reflect back. A picture without flash would be a closer representation of its true colour (which is possibly what the first and fourth pictures are).

All flash pics but it does look like that anyway...if i do it without the flash the colours get better! just blurry as hell.

If the other MA (assuming it wasnt where i work!) got theirs from the same suppliers I did, (which is a very high chance) then i had them confirmed by the wholesaler that they were Blue Acara/Green Terror Hybrids. I have a tank full same size and colour as yours, though some resemble acaras more and others are just holy terrors! Litterally.

Thats what the dude said to me in the Taunton,Somerset MA.

Still not very good selling hybrids (not that it is IMO no matter what your wholesalers say) as a completely different fish altogether.

Imagine if somebody bought one of these as a Flag Cichlid and it grew up to destory there tanks stocking....

I would love a Green Terror but it would kill my whole stocking...they are known to hate pretty much everything and kill things

Sorry Glen, but I have to disagree with this very strongly. If you have never kept a species, I don't think you should post sweeping sweeping statements like that. I have had two GTs that were kept with fish much smaller than themselves and were even bullied by my Red Spotted Severum which was smaller. Gt's as with every Cichlid should be judged on an individual basis. I have kept many species that just shouldn't work but do.

Hardly a sweeping statement, go to MFK and read one of the million threads stating 'my GT killed my Oscar' etc...how do you think I get my info? I wouldnt just make it up and throw it out there..

Those things are so aggressive that they go for your face as you walk past the tanks.

I could hardly keep a GT with my Angels...

Ha ha I have done just that before. I would hardly take credence from a website that has a lot of idiots that post threads like"my fish would kill your fish" I have known more placid GT's than aggressive ones. Some Gt's can be psycho others are not, just like some Oscars or even Severums can be. I have been keeping Central and South American Cichlids for 20+ years and have learned in that time that nothing can be taken for granted.

I don't really care what your opinion is mate, your just here for a argument by the looks of things.

I have ten years experience myself with South,Central and Africans ontop of Marines,Ponds,Monster oddballs, breeding Discus amongst other things so your elitest boasting means sweet FA to me or my thread mate.

I take the opinions of 100's of threads and posts over yours I'm afraid.

The deal is, I havent kept one because I do not like keeping large species tanks, I prefer community's and don't believe in keeping things like Jags and Red Devils with other fish so it totally rules them out.

I know Minxy has gone and got a GT recently and it will be interesting how it turns out, but i'm never going to take the opinion of a boasting 'God of cichlids' taking my thread off topic.

Woah grouchy hang over kicking in....

Firstly I am not trying to have a an argument mate, also I never ever to profess to be an expert as I believe we are all always learning. As for the elitist boasting where ? Listen Glen, I was merely pointing out that no two fish are the same and what can work for one, may not work for all. Lets not get silly here. I apologise if you think my intention was to hijack your thread, it was never my intention. As for "god of cichlids" I wish I was mate.
