He sure knows his stuff...

My immediate thought was Texas x convict as it looks really similar in shape to the convict (body mass and size) like really chunky at the front, and the Texan markings

I got it off a friend it was the boss in their tank which then got passed to her daughter, to go on and kill 5 of her malawi's then on to me...

It was bought from maidenhead sold as unknown in the big vat tanks they have.. Unsure what it was in with from the lfs and how it came to be there...

They take in people's big fish them sell them on...

It's like a big fish £10 bargin bin (maidenhead findern by the way)

Does look Madagascan, but prettier. The face is a nice shape imo as oppose to the rather strange looking Maddy.

If you Google Convict x Texas there are a few on there that look similar to this so I would probably call it a Con x Texas.... The other one I thought of was Convict x Polleni but the face is wrong for both species.

But if someone knows better then I would be happy to take their ID over mind as its just the most obvious but the markings kind of look like it could be a valid species of some kind...

Cool... I'll have a look now, it would be nice if it was a pedigree of something

My god.. my ideas werent complete nonsense LOL

I was looking at all the texas hybrids and ther spots and markings seem really different, a lot more markings and a lot more blue, especially as the fish obviously has a lot of bronze scales on it too....

hmmm

I stole you pic, posted on another site, there are some good cichlid folk there, they all seem to think, tex/con,.

Then you got me searching, git,.,,,lol...

Ive never been a fan of cross breeds, however.... :shifty:

LOL Nelly, i did the same and only one response so far but the suggestion was that it was a Texas.. though i think if it is, its a Texas (carpintis as opposed to cyanoguttatum apparently...) hybrid...

Still cant get over theshape of its face and eyes, even if the pattern is a mix mash, its face is just... different. lol

Just to add fuel to the fire.......... It looks like a hybrid between a Buttikoferi and a Jack Dempsey. I must say I have no idea if these two species can cross, but it does look a little bit like both. Or I could be talking a load of old bull,,,,it has been known!

African cichlids can't cross with American.

That's my naff theory out the window then

....... shows what I know. Like my Dad always told me "If you don't have something valuable to say son, better you say nothing!"

There... got an answer for you on the PFK forum, Texas (Cyanoguttatum) x convict, apparently they are appearing more and more often.

Its based on an opinion of someone i trust 100%, if he says its so, i believe him :)
