I Knew I Should've Set Up A Breeding Tank...

I only bought my silvertip tetras a week ago and already they're spawning. Just after feeding I watched my fishes behaviour for 10-20mins and to my surprise there were eggs flying everywhere as the males were chasing the females round - unfortunately I don't think any got beyond my angelfish Can anyone suggest what to do, do I just leave them and if I see some fry I put them in a breeding trap? Or should I set up my nursing tank as a breeder ASAP? Bearing in mind there are a fair few fish in the tank.

Honestly I don't think any eggs survived but who knows? They'll probably do the same thing again tomorrow anyway.

remember to get a spare tank ready for breeding,keep filter live in your main tank,

least alls good

Just leave them until you can set up another tank

If I convince other people in the house to alow me to set up yet another tank it'll be up and ready tomorrow, obviously not ready for fish though. I am doing a water change tomorrow so I can use some of the water from that to put into the breeding tank. And maybe - some more convincing shall be involved - I could buy another tank off of ebay that's a bit bigger so they feel more at home.

When you get the other tank, take some mature media from exsiting filter to speed up maturing the tank, another thing try second hand sites, like aquarist classifieds

Ok, nice, thanks. I always have this problem - fish spawning when I'm not prepared. Only success I've had is my bristlenose and I think that's more down to their dad watching them like a hawk.

Anyway thank you and I'll check out those websites.

if youre in the UK check out freecycle (google it). its a website where people just give stuff away, literally. no catches or difficulties. you join a group which is local to you, and every now and then you get an email of whats been put on the site near you. you find something you want, phone up the person giving it away, and go get it. i went and got a fishtank with my mate last week. 3 foot long, gravel, bogwood, pump, food, and decor all for nothing. its the second tank hes got off the site.

Im sorry about whats happened. The same thing happened to me, my angelfish pair were pecking my Bronze corys eggs and eating them.
