sorry to hear that mate that is really bad. Have you got a sump at all ? maybe think about putting equipment in there out of the way or gettig one for when you next set it up again :good:

did have a sump on it it cracked some point in december and stuck to externals filters .

:rip: That is one hell of a lot to lose in one go. Gutting.

Glad to see it has not put you off, that would killed the hobby completely for some people.

Good luck with the new venture.

marine are an addiction for me lol but it was a hell of a smell when i went into the house the first few rooms i went in took a look at all the other fish they were fine but the bigger tank was not i am totally gutted to see what happend

dont know what to do

1 put the live rock in fresh RO water for a few days coz i dont trust it

2 fresh salted water and copper treat it and put it in the fish only system

3 get rid of it and buy new live rock

what do you think can it be trusted in a new system

I would not throw it out. There will be a way to make sure there is no bad bacteria there and treat it so that it can be seeded from new live rock. I am just not sure exactly what to do with it.

I am sure someone will know what to do though.

well what i have done now is put 2 canister filters on and a uv steriliser and v2 600 protine skimmer that might help a bit what do you think

I am really not sure. You will havee had alot of decomposing bodies and likely that will have lead to bacteria mounting in the tank.

Have you done some large water changes, the protein skimmer will definately help get the crud out of the tank, I am just not sure how much damage there will be to the rock.

Effectively the tank is nuked, have you done some water tests, I bet the Nitrate and Phosphate have been through the roof. The rock will probably have adsorbed alot of that aswell and will leach phosphates for a while leaving you prone to algae outbreaks.

I am not sure if I am right here, DON'T take my word for gospel. Wait for someone to clarify, but water tests seem a very good idea at the moment so does a very large water change.

If you have the patience Scott, I'd put the LR in buckets/bins with seawater and leave them for a couple months. Parasites/bacteria would die without a hoste in that timeframe. Then you could begin rebuilding

gutted for you scott, i felt terrible when i lost all my fish and mine were no where near as nice as some of those.

yes ski that is what i will do should i run the filters still

yeh ben i was gutted to see the black tang-anchilles tang had died my 2 fav fish .but the big tank is testing

nitrate 160+
ammonia 8.0
nitrite 2.0
ph 7.8

so i am just about to drain the tank and might fill it up again some point today and let it settle for the next few months see what the wife says

The OPs problem is exactly what alarms me about keeping marine.

I think if I had caused an Emperor Angel to die I'd never forgive myself.

doris

gutted for you OP
