hi guys and gals

as i come on this forum on a nightly basis to not only improve my knowledge on this hobby but to hopefully give my input to others and help them ,i find myself completely shocked by the way some members treat others

ive noticed that this is mainly the response that newbies get from SOME experienced forum users
the majority are very pleasant, friendly people with a great sense of humour but some are damn right rude

can i suggest that those who have the urge to respond in a negative way please step away from your computors, have a cup of what ever and a cigarette if needed, then come back and respond in a more responsible and less intimerdating manner

please try to remember that some people are learning and are seeking advice, if they are doing something that is wrong then reply in a kind way by suggesting a better way to achieve the objective rather than just tell them they have got it wrong.

we all do things wrong and some achieve where others fail so in the long run were all in the same boat

thankyou for listening

o o i seen that cory in a fish shop and they look like panders but there not because of that orrange spot but
i ddnt see them i sed could i have a panda and he sed they are not pandas and sed they are £10 each.
haha
yes i agree btw lol

i remember one of my first questions about guppies and some people treated me like an idiot
little did they know that i had been breeding gups on and off for 24 years and the responses i got from some members were nothing to do with my intial question and ive noticed that it is still happening to people..................Shame on you whoever you are

well in reply to that

it seems to be time to remind people AGAIN

I always try and be polite to members.

I often see rude posts but in the main they are normally to people who refuse to believe the replies they get, or continue into the post saying I've kept BGK in 1 ft tanks for 20 years (exaggeration) and they have always been very happy etc.

At the end of the day if youre unhappy with the reply state so, but its the 'please help me' or 'stocking advice' posters that 2 posts down and 1 day later turn into expert fish breeders (asking for help) that do my head in.

yeah totally frustrating when people ignore good advice but its how the advice is given that depends on the respnse

I think we need a pinned topic for this kind of thing so that we can have one post that all people contribute their issues to ;)

See here for like minded discussion. If people don't respond that much to this thread, its because people are responding to this kind of thread all the time. I'm not moaning, just stating the reality of it all. Forums are forums, i don't think they will ever change. Rudeness is easier when not face to face. I do however believe that this is one of the better ones.

One thing that this forum does NOT have that I have seen on others is a "report this post" type option (unless im missing it ;-) ) .. that would be one way of keeping things under control.. however, it may be a little bit onerous in the mods.. :(

Squid..

I was going to wait to reply until I had something rude and negative to say, but got bored.

Yeah, I have noticed a bit of unnecessary comments from both sides of the fence in my short time here, but I think the vast majority of topics and people are very kind, helpful and informative.

I totally agree with this and the first post. Unfortunately when we join a forum that "newbie" category we get stuck with doesn't do any justice to those of us that are experienced at fishkeeping. I've been keeping and raising fish for the majority of the last 50 years, and If I mention something that doesn't go along with established opinion and the almighty "rules", I've gotten rude treatment from people assuming that I know nothing. Sorry folks - I've probably been keeping fish longer than some of you have been on this earth, and I'm not a newbie or a junior at this. I'll never consider myself an expert though, and I'm always open to learning new things. But, just because we don't follow someones personal guidelines doesn't mean that our fish are suffering or that our tanks are filthy & full of parasites, ammonia, nitrites & nitrates. Rudeness or treating someone like an idiot when you have no idea of their background, or don't agree with the way they do things, is, in my opinion (and I'm as welcome to an opinion as everyone else) just plain inexcusable. I've even seen some people criticize others for spelling errors - correct spelling & grammar are not a sign of intelligence, nor are lousy spelling & grammar an indicator of a lack of it. Lighten up people & try to help others, instead of being so quick to criticize.

Its very easy to ignore the bad/rune/stupid comments, thats all I do or if I feel good that day I come up with a very adult reply.
You have to remember forums are open to all and sundry and some people join them just to make trouble and to get a thrill and just troll the forums. Some arnt who they say they are ect ect.
