I Got Them

Theres a difference between constructive and destructive criticism though. You can point out a flaw or problem, and they may or may not accept your advice. You should never point out a problem and try your hardest to upset someone, then all you've done is make yourself look like a jerk. :good:

How u gunna help them if there doin something wrong? well thats gotta be the dumbest question ever... but heyt ur allowed to type so go ahead. REMEMBER just cuz it aint ur way it isnt nesecarily wrong... be open to other peoples ways to do things...

ANOTHER point,, helping somebody doesnt involve RUDLY saying the same thing over and over again... thats not constructive. GOOD POINT AGAIN GUPPYDUDE

AND i appologize FBTgirl for making this topic into this argument but it had to be said at some time. Just know ur not doing anything wrong cuz if ur here trying to get help then u obviously care.. I guess my advice is read between the lines on the rude comments and try to pull something constructive from them...
GOODLUCK with everything

I am off for the night,, so goodnight to all... and lets try to make the forum a bit nicer from now on eh?

thanks..

Preach on Murphyk32!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont have a test kit and no one has said anything to me, or tried to give me critisizem. I am the same age as her and if i dont get critisized then why should she? It just dosent make sense. She is trying, and being the age where you cant really get a job and everyone expects more from you is hard and all this destructive critisizem isnt helping her. As murphyk32 pointed out she has to care or she wouldnt have come to this website!!!!!!! And you cant make parents pay for everything, i come from a big family so it is all up to me, how do you know that isnt the same with her.

I can understand both sides of this argument. The OP is obviously strapped for cash and as such has to make her money stretch further than it can. Of course you can't expect your parents to buy everything for you. However if you explain the situation maybe they could help you out. I know I would for my kids. Some of the attacks have been unwarrented for sure but I also get the impression that valuable advice has been ignored. The only thing I have rebuffed in this thread is the advocation of chucking fish in with no thought to the nitrogen cycle. I think the OP has had a rethink and has taken eveything on board now and if I am not mistaken this OP is the person who started an online petition in the hope of improving conditions of Siamese Fighters for sale in petshops in america, some thing that ultimately does prove she cares. Sure she has a lot to learn, but don't we all? It's a long road to enlightenment indeed.

I think that the main reason she is getting a lot of flack from people, is because over on in the betta side, she has been talking non stop about her fish dying, her betta fish, then she said she wasn't going to get more fish because they keep dying, then she says she is waiting for her female betta fish to die so she can get male betta fish, which she thinks are better looking, then she is babysitting her friend's fish, and that she's saving her money to buy a test kit as the NEXT thing she is going to buy, and now she has new fish all of a sudden. All in the span of 4 days or so.

So that's the reason why she's getting flack from people. who see this whole other side, and then all of a sudden, she has new fish.

And I won't even get into the flack she's been taking from the care of her household pets. That's a whole other ball game. So I think that's why she's getting so much critisicm over here.

well, in the last months FTB girl has been posting on this forum, her posts has caused nothing but trouble! And may I say, buy the API master testing kit, its the best. I have had mone for months, have been testing water daily twice a day and they are stll going!!

I agree with Crux. If FBT wants to get a test kit she should really have got one when she got the guppies. RDD is also right in that a liquid test kit, although it costs a little bit more to begin with, it's more accurate, cheaper in the long run and also tests for all the basics (Ph, Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite) so you don't actually need to buy anything else.

FBT obviously cares about bettas as her petition shows (by the way everyone-sign it, regardless of whether you are in the USA or not!) but some of the things she has been posting in the betta sub forum have been cheesing people off, especially about getting a test kit.

The fish may already have been infected from the store or the water company could have flushed the mains with something nasty that is killing all the fishes, but all it would take to make sure it isn't just poor water quality would be a decent test kit, or perhaps (if they offer the service that is) taking some water from each tank to the LFS and asking them to test it. Most places do it for free or a small cost, so it's an option worth considering.

Agreed?

That's actually what I do sometimes, if i think my readings might be off the pet store in the town i live in is really great about testing my water for me when i have a concern

myself, i would never trust a pet store to test my water! never mind bying their fish and out them into the community tank before the quarity tank

Well, not every pet store is bad. The one i go to is not a chain store, it is family run, and they have been keeping fish for years, it is a really great pet store, they are very very knowledgeable and have helped me out with my fish very well

yes, but places like pet smart is very unfair with their customers aswell as their pet stock!!

Here in the UK the nearest thing we have to a petsmart or petco is Pets@Home, and even they test the water. And at the end of the day why would they tell you it was something it wasn't? If it's bad then it's an opportunity for them to try and sell you some chemicals for your tank (although I hope we all know better :) ) and if it's good then they can try and sell you some fish!

True, they can be a little vague (i.e "Your water is fine Miss Savoca") but you just have to ask for the exact results and they will tell you.
