What I don't get is why? If the animal naturally eats live food, why make it illegal to do? Wouldn't that be more detrimental to the animal?
I agree. Sounds a little on the silly side. I mean heck, it's nature. Animals eat other animals. What are you supposed to feed pets like snakes?? I am sure they would be none to happy about getting cabbage instead of live food. And I thought the American laws were bad!
Can I just clarify a small point people appear to have overlooked.

You are not allowed to feed live vertibrates to pets in the UK. They can be bought dead and frozen. It's to ensure that no unecessary pain or suffering comes to the food.

Yes, it is natural for some animals to eat other animals. However, it's not natural in a minute space with no chance of escape.

I agree with the law on this one.

Hi steppy104 :)

I guess you're right about it not being unpleasant to watch your fish eat their live food, but I still feel squeamish about it. :X

I sometimes buy feeder guppies for my frogs and they swallow them whole too. Nevertheless, when I put them in their tank, I say, "Thank you little fish and bless you," and turn away. Some things in life I can just do without and, watching this is one of them. :(

inch, what is the part of it that bothers you? just wonderin....

i think that killin all the little fishies would be such a hassel....then theres no guarentee(sp?) that they're gonna get eaten. i might end up with a bunch of dead fish floatin round the tank....there are lots of little places in my tank where the catfish cannot get to. and the sunfish aren't much of scavengers....so the fish would basically sit and rot there. the living fish catches their attention, and they immediatly eat them....unless they're full. lol.

i definatly think that that law would make it really hard to keep certain snakes. :/

Rosies make good feeders, their orange so they're easier to see.

For those of you how don't know, their pretty much just orange minnows.

And who feeds hamsters to snakes? I always used mice, or rats, when they're bigger snakes. If you need different sizes, that's what the younger rats are for...

Hehe, Go Charles Dickens!!!

ooh...i understand.

i can't say that i have feeling for the things...they aren't my pets, and i know they're gonna die soon...so i figure theres no point in feelin sorry for them...i mean, they did surve their purpose in life, right? lol.
