There should be a +- on each side if not + should be right and negitive should left. You have a fifty fifty shot try going one way a little bit check your temps later then you'll know

If you can't tell which way to turn the knob, watch the pilot light and turn it. When the pilot comes on you are going hotter, when it goes out you are going cooler. Now that you know which way to turn it, only turn down less than 45 degrees and watch the tank temperature for a few hours. When you get close, you need to watch it longer to zero in on the desired temperature.

The dial is stuck! This is my luck... It's a green glass thermometer. It's quite old. Will it hurt if I take pliers and try to adjust? Sheww... I hope my fish don't get sick from the heat. They are on 80 going on 82 right now... I unplugged it a while ago and it's not going down yet...

Old man, I have no clue what a pilot is or where 45 degress is. After scrubbing the junk off the top, I see the + and -, but they won't budge!

I'd get a new one...heaters aren't something I like to skimp on, given that they can easily boil your fish if something goes wrong.

I'd personally recommend a Eheim Jager a Fluval E or a Visitherm.

Will the one in my son's 29 gallon kit tank work. It's wrapped for Christmas, but I can relplace it before then. This tank is 60 gallon.

For a 60 gallon tank, you will want at least a 200W heater and a 250 would be better. The one in a 29 gallon kit will probably only be a 150W and will not be the best quality heater.

If I'm remembering right, you have only HOB filters, right mp0033price? No external cannisters with hoses? I was going to mention the Hydor inline heaters (200w and I think 300w are available) which you splice into the filter hoses outside the tank. But if you're sticking with HOB filters then you'd need a heater internal to the tank and I'd agree with 3-fingers recommendations up there on those.

Waterdrop, yes I only have the pengin biofilter 330 and the AC 70 on the 60 gallon now. THey are doing awesome. So, I'll have to take 3 fingers advice ASAP.. Thanks..
