How To Safely Lower Ph Without Liquid Chems

Hi,how can i lower my ph from 7.7 to 7.0 safely,would fluval pete do the job,i have a powerhead 50 with opitional filter basket for the media,or could go in my main filter basket,any ideas thanks

I replied to the other thread lol, but what are you planning to keep? 7.7 is fine for most species

you can get peat pellets to put into your filter like these

but its more hassle than its worth really!

Lol mate i couldnt find my other post,i have clown loach and i think they would like a lower ph which would result in softer water no!,cheers. Just looked at ur link for the jbl pete,does all of these products tinge the water green as it says on the jbl product

Yes, peat in your filter would be ok. Another option is using bogwood, the tannins coming off the wood lower your pH as well. ANd I do not agree with mewmew: a pH of 7 is desirable for many species. It will definitively widen your options to fish that prefer soft water like rams.

Was it you who used the tetra substrate? because that will often lower PH, not straight away, but over a slow period of time.

it dependce what fish you keep or want to keep to what ph you need. bog wood or peat in the filter will help to lower ph. just dont do massive water changes that will affect the ph to much just little and often.

Pretty much all ways to lower the pH will put tannins into the water- peat, leaves, wood.

Yeah i got the tetra plant sub under my gravel,only been set up 8 months,will try some peat maybe

OohFeeshy is right; your water will turn a bit yellowish/brown. I like that however, it looks very natural and with the right lighting I think it even looks romantic...

I can see what u mean,like where all our fish come from i bet its not crystal clear,and it wont irratate the fish if i add some peat to my filter!
