Hi all,

I have an aquarium with a pair of Kribensis. My PH is around 8. Now I need the ph to go down to 7. I do weekly 20% water change and the tap water PH is around 8. If i add CO2 to the aquarium pumping in 1 bubble per 5 seconds would the PH go down? Also that 20% water change with PH 8 would it effect the aquarium PH?

Should i use Seachem Regulator or would refrain from using it because of phosphate and since i have low light plants (15W for 60 Litres tank and 10 hours daily with lights on) algae will start forming?

Or another option that i may think is i run the 20% water change through peat only once. Would this be enough to lower it to 7?

Thanks in advance

Kribs will breed in that pH, although I believe all fry would be of one sex... Is that why you want a pH of 7, for an equal balance of male and female fry?

A bubble rate of 30 per minute will lower the pH by ~0.8 degrees, if your water is arounf gH 14 and kH 11, like mine (which naturally starts at 8.2 but settles at 7.4).

pH adjusting products are bad news, its stability that is key.

i want to change the ph so that when they breed i have a balance.

GH is around 16 and KH is around 6.

what about passing through peat once before i make the water change?

The standard way to go downward is to buy an RO unit and then use a TDS test to figure out the ratio of RO water to your tap water that you need to mix to get your tank to the hardness/pH level you want. WD

You could get some bogwood that has no been soaked, and put in your aquarium. The first few days your water will be tannin-stained, but that should soon clear up. It will def lower your ph!

As WD said, the only way to do much good is to reduce your mineral content. Then the application of things like tannins will work to lower the pH.
