it is a pretty horrible issue and well done on doing what you could to make this as simple as you could.

Killing fish. Well, you learn the best way to do it quickly by a fish monger. Blunt force trauma to the head will do it. If you ever watch someone clean a live fish, you'll know the fish is dead once he takes the hammer to the brains of it.

The easiest, and most effective way, is to chop it's head off.. I know the fish is already dead.. but in the future, just chop it's head off.. cold water is not going to kill the fish immediately or painlessly.
