How to dry live mealworms?

I want to preserve mealworms.

look for a freeze drying unit for food and freeze dry them.

Given that mealworms are not especially good for fish if fed often, I would not even bother. A culture will provide more than you will ever need anyway (mine did, back when I used them for amphibians but sparingly, and I fed the beetles now and then which the critters also liked.
