How To Clean Silca Sand

I am looking at gravel cleaners, but I have silca sand as my substrate. As the sand is not as heavy as gravel, will these suction cleaners suck up the sand as well as the waste that I want to remove, or will it be heavy enough to drift back down to where it belongs.

I dont have sand, but im pretty sure ya just gently suck off the dirt on the surface of the sand rather than mixing it up like gravel as the waste doesnt sink into sand the way it does with gravel.

swirl it around in a clockwise or anti clockwise direction about an inch above the sand, waste will go up, sand will mostly stay down. on occasions run your fingers through the sand and stir it up a little, rince and repeat.
