Hi--He is in a 2 gallon bowl in my bedroom with a heater--seems very, very happy, but my husband and I will nap a lot so there is no light on in the room. Wasn't sure how much light he requires...When we went away for Thanksgiving weekend, I left a little light on in the room (even though he was near a window with blinds partially open)--worried Fish Mama that I am! Any input or "light on the subject" ohhhhh would be greatly appreciated!

He's my new one of 3 weeks (who I'm afraid to name 'caus it's harder to lose them), shades of pink and purple and lavender who I haven't yet figured out how to shoot and post pictures of--But I will as soon as I can. He is so lovable--comes over to me everytime I walk by bowl.

ALso, what do people handfeed their bettas?

Thanks. Wendy :) :) :)

Your Betta won't mind too much how much light he gets. As long as he gets some light during the daylight hours he'll be fine. The only thing I can think that may be a problem is if you enter the room and turn on a light when he's been chilling in the dark may startle him.

I'm assumng his bowl doesn't have a light available ? You could always sit a low powered desk lamp near him and put it on a timer for 8 hrs a day or something. If that's no good due to naps, maybe you could move him to a room where more active time is spent ?

I tend to hand feed my betta either pellets or bloodworm, depending if it's treat day or not :)
*edit* Again with the 3 lines instead of one when I hit enter :(

Hi- Thanks. He does have a large lamp on the table next to the bowl which my husband likes to keep off mostly. I could try a little light. What's this about startling him when I turn on the light? I try to leave a small light in the room --though it's across on the other side.

He used to be in our dining room, on the table near our 10 gallon tank of mollies & many fry, and then we had to spray for fruit flies and I brought him into the bedroom for protection. And I love seeing him more now when I'm in here than when he was out in the dining room--he perks up and comes over to me--in a kind of what reminds me of "wagging his tail" mode. And, I actually wave to him from the bed--I feel very silly admitting this--but he's such a little cutie!

Re handfeeding--I feed him dried worms of various kinds--I just haven't seen anything except live worms--long enough to feed him by hand....Are those live worms?

By the way, I see you're from Ayrshire in Scotland. I visited friends in the town of Ayr many years ago on my way to Prestwick Airport from Glasgow...and I loved Scotland--so beautiful and we also drove through the highlands, too. THanks for bringing back nice memories

Warmly,
Wendy B) ;)  :D
