I have a 55gl heavily planted and heavily stocked tank.

I have 4 species of snails. Ramshorn snails, MTS, a type that I am trying to get an ID on, and Ampularidii (sp) mystery snails. They are all breeding. I have let it go because I think snails are natural and beneficial, but it may be getting out of hand.

There aren't that many ramshorns, maybe 20. there are at least over 100 MTS, over 50 of the snails I haven't an ID for, and about 40 of the mystery snails. They don't really bother me but it is a little ridiculous looking. And there are several dead MTS so some are dying off and I do wonder if that can mess with my water quality.

What would you all do in my case?

Here is a pic of the snail with no ID

Im not sure HOW many snail are too many, but they do produce waste so they do contribute to your biological load. A dead snail is the same amount of a problem as a dead fish of that size. If you want to get rid of them, float a leaf of lettuce or plop a carrot in the tank. They love those and you can just dispose of the lettuce the next morning.
Hope this helps.

As said above snails will add to the biological load in the tank, and when they reproduce in great numbers can become a real health issue to other tank inhabitants. Dead snails will foul the water and cause the same problems as a dead fish, and if they die without being noticed they can cause a snowball affect of more snails dying and causing ammonia spikes.
When ever my MTS start getting too out of control I use a fish net and scoop through the sand substrate, this then lets me sieve out the sand back into the tank while allowing me to remove bulk amounts of snails.
I have also utalised home made and conventional snail traps both with limited success, some fish are just too greedy or stupid for their own good.
Zucchini works well as a snail bait, just weigh it down and let the snails find it, once the snails have swarmed all over it, remove it carefully and scrape or knock the snails off and if the zucchini is still in good shape put it back in the tank for another go. Most fish will also enjoy having a pick/ nibble at the zucchini too.

When removing snails from a tank, please do NOT but them down household drains (eg bathroom/ kitchen sink, bathtub or toilet) or in storm water drains. No animal kept in a domestic environment should be allowed to escape into the wild because they can become an ecological pest as well as release diseases that where not found in that environment previously.
When I am killing snails I either crush them and feed them to various fish I already keep or I leave the snails on hot concrete in the full sun and ants are very quick to come and clean them up.
Another option is some pet shops/ fish shops will take extra snails and sell them to customers, the shop may not pay you for the snails but they might still take them off your hands.
