How many pounds of gravel do i need for my 29g tank?

i have a 36 x 18 (40g) and i used 25Kg of pea gravel which gave me a depth of 3" so 20kg of this will be more than enough, and it is cheap. 20kg of any substrate should be plenty.

I have heard the saying that you need about a pound of gravel for every gallon of water, but really it depends more on the dimensions. I have a tank that size and I believe I did use about 25 to 30 pounds of gravel for it and it gave me about 2.5 inches of substrate.

I bought 20 pounds of gravel. It worked quite nicely :
