How Many Goldfish In A 70 Gallon?

So my bath tub pond is finally setup and is getting ready for some goldfish and I want to know how many I could fit in there if it holds 70 us gallons?

I was only gonna get 2 orandas but if I can fit 3 i'll get a blackmoor aswell, do you think that would be good or should I stick to one kind as in all orandas?

So 2 or 3 in there?

Well I've currently got 2 black moores in a 85 liter tank (22Gallon) and they do not look crowded...By rule of thumb, I'd say you can get about 7/8 in there... and if your intention is to breed, Go for single specie.

Out of all the stuff I have read on here a 22 gallon is know where near enough for 2 goldfish (don't mean to be rude just what i've read

for a 70 gallon I would say 4 with monster filtration.

So a 2000lph probably wouldn't be classed as monster on a 270litre tank?

It could do with being better, something like 3000 lph would be more appropriate.

Yeah the filter is capable of 3000lph but the pump I got is only a 2000lph one and it was free so I ain't planning on upgrading until this one breaks

thats part of the reason I was only gonna go with 2 or 3 of them.

You're absolutely right.... if you read it on this forum, it has to be true, because we have the most knowledgeable members around. To me, my 2 Black Moore's looked absolutely comfortable (and somewhat lost) in this 22Gallon tank, but maybe I'll have to reconsider..... Based on what you have read on this forum.

Those moors will be fine in there for a while, but when they grow ( and they will unless already stunted ) they'll need a bigger tank.

Though I'd say they look so lost partly because the tank is very bare! Surely even some silk plants would brighten things up? They're easy to clean if the reason you have a bare tank is for cleanliness?

As for the original question, You could get away with 3 if your filtration is really very good, and you're dilligent with water changes, though it would depend on your location as to wether you could have a moor in an outdoor pond. I've read many times that fancies do not tend to survive well if the temp drops below around 10 degrees, so here in the UK we can't keep them in ponds. But if you live in a warm climate then a moor will be fine outside.

Nooooooo!.... Honey.... They're not stunted. Noooooo!!!!! I got them about a month ago, AND they're GROWING!!!!!... I've had adults of these before so I know exactly how big they can get...... & another thing!!!!.... I have actually spawned them in a tank this size and reared the fry SUCCESSFULLY!!!!!

Oh!.. & about the bare tank.... this is in my garage..... I'm rearing these two to become potential breeders.... The current decor is by choice.

They say for fully grown black moors, 20 gallons for the first and then 10 more gallons for each one after, but they are just guidelines.

Gurglar, you could probably get away with about 5 or 6 goldfish in a tank that size. Be cautious about mixing goldfish types though. A common comet type goldfish will definitely out compete a fancy tailed one or a moor when it comes to feeding time. That means that mixing varieties can mean some very hungry fish among the slower ones.
