How Many Fish Can I Have

also i would like to get 2 dwarf gouromis 3 clown loach and 3 silver sharks ino i mite eventualy need a bigger tank but i am willing to get one. so that is a total of 25 fish but neons are much smaller than a inch or an inch.

Please, please dont silver sharks and clown loaches grow to 12inches EACH! Just to house 3 silver sharks and 3 clown loaches you would need a tank measuring over 72 gallons and then probably more.

As stated above. Silver Sharks and Clown loaches both get too big for your tank, and I personaly would recomend a 100g minimum for the silvers. 72 would be OK for clowns, assuming adiquate filtration, as both species are heavy waste producers. You tank is almost fully stocked, so your only options are low waste producing fish. Neons need more swimming room than available, but shrimp, and other species in the following thread are all good options for a smaller tank [topic="116208"]other thread[/topic] Unfortunately all the fish you are after are too big for the tank, if it were unstocked, and the tank definately won't hold these with the exsting fish. I would strongly advise you to not add and of your prefured choices to this tank

2" per gallon is too much for a small tank, 1" is about right, specially for a newer keeper.

According to your rule of thumb you tank is overstocked by 12inches as your total fish length is 32inches and you've only got a 20g tank, and thats assuming no displacement by decor or equipment.

Assuming the tank is long, and overfiltered, this stocking is OK, assuming you are experienced and keep up with maintanance. Heavier stocking than the one inch per gallon rule can caurse problems, which can be avoided if you have the knowlage and experience to deal with them. New people into the hobby are almost certain to make mistakes, which is why they should avoid overstocking untill they are "into the swing of things" and have the experience to stock more heavily. I know of many people who have brought down whole tanks by overstocking them

EDIT: sorry, just seen your post stating you won't get the clowns or silver sharks. Sorry for the lecture

I really think that if you want to add anything to your tank shrimp are the way to go, they just look so cool, I suppose which is why I am moving into marines!

its ok lol also i have another tank which has cichlids in i have 2 orange zebra 5 yellow labs 2 cat fish 1 plec and an oscar n 2 other rather small ciclids what other fish are compatable with these fish

How large is the tank? Are the cats corys? What do the two small cichlids look like?

Other Malawis realy.....Not one of my strong points. What type of pleco do you have? Commons can get to 18inch and gibeseps get to arround 24!!! Also, the size of your tank will depend upon what you can keep. Many Malawis grow large, thus need a large tank.

All teh best

Yes my tank is way over stocked, to displace this problem I have serious over filtration and enough knowledge to ensure all water paramaters always within a safe level :)
