How Many Females In A 7.5 Gallon?

The inch per gallon guidance, there are no rules, applies as theshadowinc said, to small fish with slender bodies. Any large fish and any heavy bodied fish is completely outside the kind of fish that people had in mind when they came up with that guidance. When I first saw that specified by a fish keeper, it was when the stock options at the LFS was very poor by today's standards and most fish were more or less torpedo shaped and less than 3 inches SL.

Oh, really? Hmm.... I'd always thought that they found some bigger species of fish first, but I guess I was wrong.

They did but they where never offered at your lfs and they where controlled as in bass and rainbow trout :) they where used as food not as a hobby of keeping them, something like betta's and tetris date back to 1910

Oh. Thanks for that.

What do you mean by 'your lfs'? Like, just LFSes in general?

Yes local fish stores in general, they never had big fish aquariums back then neither, i think a 20 gallon back then if you where lucky was considered a luxury fish tank they where extremely expensive
