Keeping fish again

I have been away from the hobby for a few years but am now starting a new tank. I have kept bettas for a long time, at home and in my office. I have just bought a new halfmoon plakat online; it will be delivered in a couple of days. Meanwhile, I have established a new 10 gallon aquarium, conditioned the water, and bought some ember tetras. I am READY for.my new betta!

Despite of the fact that I've ("or even we've" if I consider my parents as well) had bettas all my life, I've spend 15 years of them breeding them as well. But now, I'm not actively keeping and breeding them anymore.

No, starting from scratch. I'm using tetras to get the tank conditioned.

Yes. I am not familiar with the terminology. I am trying to have the best tank conditions that I can before the betta arrives. "In the old days" I would go to the store, buy a betta, bring it home and put it in a small tank filled with tap water. I am glad that they breathe air; somehow the ones I bought survived. I am learning a whole new way of keeping fish.

In the good/bad old days, cycling your tank meant leaving it filled with water for 3 days to let the gases escape, then you could add fish.

Welcome. I've always cycled my tanks using a hardy fish species. Never had a problem and I get to enjoy my fish right away. There are quite a number of them that have no problem with the process. I've kept Goldfish, Koi, Buenos Aires Tetras, Giant Danios, Guppies, Plecos, Corydoras, Red Eyed Tetras, Black and White Skirt Tetras, different Platys and recently Brassy Minnows. Plus some others I've forgotten.
