It has an airstone under it so air flowing up around it?

And does it matter heater has a plant leaf or 4 on it large leafed plant thing.

just turned it off to give the fry a chance to settle in 24 hours be ok

Turn the flow down on filter if you can.
Also it wise to put a net on water outlet tube so the fry don't get sucked in, just secure the net with a elastic band.

Its a very basic fluval 1+ no flow control

and I don't have any netting

If you HAVE to keep it off, as long as the filter media stays wet, the bacteria should stay for a while. I am not an expert, so I cannot give you a time frame, but I would suspect 24 hours would be ok...
Maybe you can look for a filter that is adjustable, and use it instead, if you plan on breeding. Just make sure u keep both for a month or so so the bacteria can migrate to the new filter :)

All you can do is put the filter in ladies tights, it should slow the flow down and stop the fry getting in the filter.
You can use an old fish net for the netting.

yep ive done this in a pair of my wifes tights :good:
also a good idea is to buy a sponge filter which connects to your pump for the bubble wall, cannot such up the fry, have this in my fry tank :good: cheap as chips to buy, under 15pounds for the biggest one
