Thanks. Now I can ask my LFS guy to show me all the African Cichlids (Sick-lids) that he has. And he won't have a clue of what I'm talking about!! I ought to get an hon. PhD in fish keeping.
the first time i asked for 'cichlids' the guy at the shop looked at me a bit funny before seamlessly moving on to talk about 'SICKLIDS'...i soon got the message after an very embarrasing couple of seconds
I once walked into a petstore and asked if they had any blue rams. The guy had no idea what I was talking about, so I started asking him where the cichlids were. Poor guy had to get saved by one of the other workers, I had to smile though, he looked so damned embarrassed...
I think I'll continue to say "chick-lids" just because "sick-lids" sounds strange to me. I have a better idea..I'll just refrain from using the word out-loud. haha
deffinatly sick-lids
notice how there isn't any "CH" at the beginging
If you still don't want to use it, just say the common name of the fish, or an abreviation of the name, to avoid embarresment.
