How Do You Find The Sex Of Angelfish?

i am wondering how you find the sex of angelfish as i brought 2 beautiful blushing koi angelfish yesturday.

Its very hard to sex angel fish from just looking and you usually have to wait for them to do the do before you know for certain. But in adults you can sometimes spot the male because of a slight hump on his head called a nuchal hump most cichlids get them and some are huge but angel fishes are small and often go un noticed but I have found it a little helpful when looking at them but never 100% with it. Also as adults males will be bigger than females.

Walkers is referring to the ovipositor of course....

I always claimed that the facial expression shows me which are male and which are female (and I maintain that I'm sexing them like that, with 90% accuracy, but it created such havoc - on this forum, that I will not recommend my method)

Another one of my own observations... (not published anywhere) but it works for me (apart from the facial expression).... The distance between the anal opening and the start of the tail is greater in the female than in the male.... Other than that, I know of no guaranteed method of sexing Angels until they start to breed.

Like others have said wait until they pair and spawn and look at their reproductive organs. Of course there is no guarantee you have a pair you may have 2 Males or 2 Females

A friend of mine claims she can see the difference by looking at the dorsal fin. Females have a more convex fin and males' fins are somewhat concave.

Ye know Biulu... When you work with "anything" for a long enough period, you just get the feel for it.... When I had my pub (restaurant)... Any new customer that walked in, I could instinctively tell.... this guy is a beer drinker, or.... this guy is going to order a Red Heart rum/whiskey/Gin/Brandy... whatever.... to an accuracy of about 90%...

Same applies to when I ran the SPCA,.... I could tell (when you walk into the door) that you own Rottweilers, or Maltese poodles/Jack Russels/fox terriers... whatever... Now, This is the way I feel about Angels..... When I see a new one.... I can just tell this is a male or this is a female... BUT, do not ask me why I say so... Then I come up with answers like... Facial expressions and the likes... Just believe me when I say so! ... Some time back, I bought 8 Pearl Scaled Angels... I said to the guy.... "Give me that male and that female" etc. etc..... I ended up with 4 pairs of breeding Angels.

Love the pearls scales! I have now 4 juveniles: a completely pearl white, a blushing and 2 blushing smokeys I would say. Hope 2 of them pair off.

Silly question, but the 2 im looking at getting are paired... is that a guarante that its a male and female? Or is there a chance they just swing the other way? hahaha
